V6 with a tune can be set up to run on 93, with an added boost in performance.

It's an isomer. Octane has a straight line configuration, where as you see the other structure above. On the molecular level they are the same, but with different structures. IE both are CH3(CH2)6CH3 The chemical name for what goes in gasoline is actually called isoocatane. Random useless information FTW

... here’s the scoop.... gasoline is made of dozens of types of hydrocarbons. they get it from a cut on a distillation column (determined by its boiling point).... so there is really no exact chemical make-up. in easier to understand terms.... they boil crude oil in a tall cylider, and separate it by stages that boil at different temperatures.... as you go up the column, the temperature of each stage slightly decreases..... thick stuff (tar) comes out of the bottom and light stuff (methane and propane) comes out of the top..... raw gasoline comes off somewhere in the middle.... then 10% ethanol and other additives are added.

The rating system is called "octane" because the gasoline mix is run against a "chemical standard mixture" of a chemical called isooctane (a.k.a. 2,2,4 trimethylpentane) mixed with heptane. For example, gasoline with the same knocking characteristics as a mixture of 90% iso-octane and 10% heptane would have an octane rating of 90.
