Here's a dyno comparison to stock that someone did. World beater? No. But improvement over stock? Yes.

To echo some of the other CAI brand lovers...I love the quality of the CAI unit. I saved a good amount of coin on an opened box purchase (someone returned the unit) of a new CAI on the ZL1. It looks and performs great. But I do love my Z/28 intake on the 2010. I'm likely going with the ZL1 hood so the Vararam had to come off. The Z/28 is a great replacement.

Do you think the day will ever come when people won't be saying that this cold air intake is better than that cold air intake?

just a side question. back in the day when I still had to have a V8 and would rev the engine it would noticeably move side to side a bit. yet I see most of these installations with an anchored cleaner box and solid tubing.
Do these new engines not have a side movement which would stress the assembly?

No, I don't think that day will ever come. People always want to think that they bought "the best" there is. Throw in a bunch of hype from manufacturers and vendors... and well, there ya go.

I personally think that there probably isn't a hair's HP difference between the Z-28, Roto-Fab, CAI, or similar intakes. The LS3 or L99 engines can only use so much air... once you meet that goal, anything more is overkill. And I think all of those CAI's meet that goal.

Yeah, my car went a lot faster with a Z28 intake, but that was compared to a Volant with a Powercore filter. The Powercore filter only breathes from the circular end, not the sides of the filter. And that circular end is also partially blocked by the inner fender well. It filters great, but it's breathing ability is limited. It performs about the same as the stock air box, which kills your performance on the top end. I've no doubt that I would've gotten the same improved results had I chosen any of the popular CAIs. Maybe even better if I'd gone with one that has a scoop.

The pipe passes through a rubber grommet in the air box so the 2 pieces can move independently. it kinda floats in the box

The two cars that were in the final in the modified class in Bowling Green were running Vararam.

Given the #s are so close, I chose based on looks. Went with the Z28, and I'm happy with it.

Frankly, if CAI had offered a color match option, I probably would have went that way. I wasn't interested in buying it black/stainless and then trying to find someone I trusted to paint it the color of my car.

One thing I took notice of immediately was that after I installed headers that "pfssst" sound went away. Before headers the new sound caused by the CAI was obvious. After the headers I can't hear any noise from the CAI at all. I often wonder why.

if the Z28 intake was available when I was looking I would have went that route. I'm a big fan of factory fit and finish. But I am very happy with my ADM Race intake.
