This was posted awhile back on our site, but this may help, This should keep you legal, and you could have fun with it, just think you get pulled over for no front plate, and you say I have one and behold there is one there when you both look.

Toetter, I'm in Iowa too. I've been driving my Camaro every sunny day for 2 and a half months, and so far I've had no trouble with cops at all. My dealer told me that they never install front plates on Camaros and Corvettes and that the law isn't enforced much.

Dumbest law ever. Front plates are on the Envoy and Sonoma just because there were holders installed when we bought them. Dealer would've had to drill through the bumper of the Malibu to install the holder, my dad told them to forget about it.

Ya bastid!! I used to live in PA, but now have moved back west and the front plate is required here. It was hard enough to watch them drill the holes into the front of my Impala.. if I one day get a Camaro I don't know what I'll do!

Montycarlo - Thanks for the info. I can't see it being a big issue, but we will see. All the trooopers in the area are good friends and hope that will help. Once they know it is my car, I should be fine. I just feel like a hipocrit not putting it on. I think I will get over it!!

Red face

when I was living in Florida (one plate state ) i came up in summer of 99 to get a new (well newer) car. That was when I got my 95 40th anniversary Thunderbird from a auction in PA (also a one plate state). got a temp tag for it and drove it back to NY where i was staying. I got all the paperwork and registration from the last car (and the Florida tag) with me so it was very easy transferring it over, did it over the phone. I drove that car in Florida for a year then we moved back to NY after new year 2000. of course NY is a 2 plate state , i drove on the Florida tags until spring 2001 cause that's when the registration ran out. when i finally got it registered in NY they gave me my 2 plates i put on on the back but kept the other in the glove box. I drove with one plate on my car till it was totaled in 2002, if i ever got pulled over and they mentioned it i told them "it was on back order", they let me go. My dad is currently driving a Pacifica that has no front plate on it, and has had it over a year, keeps the front tag under the floor mat on the passenger side and has never been harassed.....yet.

I have been a police officer for 20 years and this has to be one of the several laws I disagree with. Some cars look fine with a front plate and some are not meant to have one such as a Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. In Maine, there is a double whammy, there is a violation not to have a front plate, and also an inspection standard that if you dont have a front plate the car will not pass inspection. I will admit that it is nice to be able to see a plate when you meet it for several reasons, but I dont see it necessary. But if you buy a car from a dealer here, they have to sell it with the plate bracket on the car. So I guess my Camaro will have a front plate on it.
