Goof off would probably work as well. I used that stuff to remove things on my Camry, scuffs from door dings, and if I screwed up using my touch up paint.

Once your factory or touch up paint has been cured it won't take that off, but works on things like that.

The easiest way to remove permanent marker is to go over the area with permant marker then wipe it off right away. this works every time it reacctivates the ink and allows you to clean it off.

I dont know if hairspray will damage the wheels, but thats what I always used to remove marker from hard surfaces.

I drove to the county court house yesterday to get my driver's license renewed. When I got out to pay the meter, I look down at my right front wheel and lo and behold it appeared as though someone had taken a black marker and scribbled all over my wheel. I thought to myself, "Self, there is no way on earth some hooligan would write all over your wheels in such a small town that hardly ever sees any major crimes."

So I crouch down to get a better look and rubbed away some of the brake dust even thinking that maybe something sticky had gotten on them and the brake dust was just sticking to these areas better than others. I rubbed and rubbed and even applied a little spit but couldn't do anything with the marks. You can see in the second picture that I was able to make some progress on one of the marks, but the top mark is more stubborn. I don't know if it's a permanent marker or what.

Does anyone know what could safely get these marks off without damaging the wheel itself? These are the RS painted wheels by the way.

Also, maybe I'm over reacting and have mistaken these marks for vandalism. Has anyone else seen this stuff show up? I mean is it just something on the wheel that collects there or what?

I'm leaning towards actual vandalism. I just can't believe it happened to me.

Oh, and before anyone thinks that maybe a meter maid marked them somehow, these marks were there WHEN I pulled up to the meter; so they had been there and I never park at the curbs of other places so no need for meter maids to be marking up my wheels. I thought they used chalk on the tires anyway.

Well, finally. Here are the pics. Sorry they are not of the best quality. They are taken from my $30 prepaid cell phone.
WD-40 will remove permanent marker. You will need to wash it off after, but it works awesome and is not abrasive and can get it off plastic, glass, paint, anything non porous.

those lines honestly look way too random for vandalism or meter maids..ive had similar marks like that..i believe you just ran over something that bounced around your rim like that..aluminum or chrome polish usually takes that stuff right off..looks like some new pavement has bounced around and left some really light lines of tar on it resembling a marker..i guarantee its something you ran over or something that just bounced around on that wheel that done that and not vandals..like i said the lines are just too unorganized and random..vandals will put curse words or pictures, not some meaningless lines..unless there are some picstures and i just dont see them. but ive had those same lines before too..dont know where they came from but theyve been there before a few times.

magic marker removal

Trust me on this. Go to your wife's (Mom's, Girl Friend's or sister's) make up area. Women use rubbing alcohol for remove make up and to clean oil from the skin. Alcohol will easily remove magic marker. Markers are alcohol based.

DO NOT! Repeat, do not use nail polish remover. That is lacquer thinner and will attack the paint on your wheels.

Try goof off, but be sure to test a small area to make sure it doesn't take the paint off.
Let's hope that doesn't happen to any of our Camaros...

If it is a permenant marker, one of the little alcohol prep's they use before giving a shot will take it off and not hurt the paint. you can get these at a pharmacy..small box of thirty or so, dries immediately. a lot of markers are alcohol based.

Rubbing alcohol works good on Magic Markers and Sharpies. Wash the dust off first, then use the alcohol on a rag or paper towel, then clean the alcohol off with something like Glass Plus. Do not use windex for anything other than glass because it contains ammonia.
