Sinkholes are very prevalent in an Area SE (Seffner/Valrico) of Tampa to NW (Spring Hill), however they can happen anywhere ( there have been some big ones in Orlando)

I think Crime & Drugs go hand in hand & that is sadly everywhere, not just Florida!

I prefer the east coast. Just more going on, and I like the ease of travel on I95, and A1A is awesome. I currently live on the coast a little south of St. Augustine. Moved here from Long Island about ten years ago, no regrets.

We'll be permanently in Fl one day. For now I just pay prop taxes in both Fl and Pa. My place is in Melbourne Beach. It's quiet though if you want that. Across the street from the beach. Only bad if a hurricane is coming!! Stay an hr from Orlando or buy in a gated community. Not every day but I can say I have swam in the ocean all of the 12 months of the year. I laugh a little when it makes the news that "it's ONLY going to be 70 tomorrow" in January! Look around and find your place. Humidity takes getting used to but it's a great state.

Bradenton/Sarasota. West Coast is where it is at. We lived in Orlando, but it isn't FL in my opinion. Too many tourists.

There aren't and fast curves or winding roads. It's all kinda flat. The roads are in soo much better condition than the roads up north. Pa is the pothole capital! Ha ha!

All of the northeast is bad with potholes. It's science. Frost heaves break the asphalt which leads to more damage. Still wouldn't live in Florida though. I've been there enough to have a firm grasp on it, not just rumor & speculation.

If I couldn't ride anymore, it would help the Florida equation. That is certainly a big factor.

I know plenty of roads down here that are plenty curvy. It's all about the back roads. Plus, they are in great condition, unlike the crappy roads up north where I used to live.

I agree!

I barely take the Interstate and always take the back way to work thru some of the few hills east of Tampa

How many times have you been to PA? I'm pretty sure probably less times then I've been to yours. Unfortunately. And you can keep your flat, hot, humid, bug infested, poor driver populated state. The rest of the US is happy to leave.

I've been to PA enough to know that it's a state that I would never want to live in. Especially in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees, the sky is dark gray, and the ground is brown. That's absolutely depressing! If all you've seen of Florida is driving on I-95 & I-4 you haven't seen my state. Have you ever been to the Panhandle of Florida? How about Cedar Key or Key West? And as far as the poor drivers - Take a look at the number of out of state tags, the rest are snowbirds in rental cars ---

OBTW - The next time that you're in Florida I have a few friends that would like to invite you over to swim with them.....

Ha ha, this is now the Pa vs Fl thread. Royal tiger has valid points. Fl is hot and humid, relatively flat. The bugs, ugh! The drivers can be bad too. Having said that, I enjoy Fl every time I'm down. I don't think I could ride my bike though, I don't like windshields, or eating bugs! Pa is a beautiful state even in winter. It also varies in terrain, Fl pretty much looks the same. I've been to all corners of both states. To each his own. I'm heading up to Lehigh Valley to check out this fall foliage run. Sorry Fl you really don't get to see that!

Well the OP asked about good areas to move to in Florida, not for people opinions on if they liked it or not. OP obviously likes it if he has decided to possibly move there.

...and the bug thing, most overblown thing ever. I lived on Long Island for some 30+ years, and have been in Florida for about 10. No difference in bugs, the key with Florida is staying near the coast. As the sea breezes keep the bugs to a minimum. Inland, different story. The flatness doesn't bother me, and I hate snow and cold temps, hence why I left the north. I can drive my toys all year long down here too. Plus, lets remember that what one considers a nice landscape is personal opinion too. I would take the beach views, especially in the Keys, over a snow covered mountain any day.

Yes, the op did ask about areas in Fl. Like SS1le my house is on the east coast and I'm on the beach and love it. I've been all over and have family in Fl. It is a great state! The bugs are there though. I don't think Az has many. Just giving him a heads up! I'm on the island in Melbourne Beach but I can walk to the other side to the intercostal (Indian river) where I fish and it's got a ton of insects. I'm sure he's researched all this. I like the areas from St Augustine to west palm myself. There are crappy areas everywhere and so long as he follows properly values he should be ok. Good luck op!!
