Does anyone know if you can get to these bolts with the car on the ground? Or if someone has a diagram where they are? I wanted to check to see if that is my problem. Mine is making a bump noise when I come to a complete stop or when I start out from a stop.

Take off your tire and rim, Spindle nut is dead center behind your rim..Take it to the dealer, GM has a fix for this problem. They simply add a shim.It takes 2 hours at the most, but they will probably have to order the shims!!

So has anyone done this repair themselves? I may just buy the parts from our dealership to update our car. Be interested in the details of the fix...

Man, guys, thanks for this thread.....my 2010 SS at 2500 miles started this clicking sound this past week and it sounds exactly what has happend to my car, sounds like coming from the right rear......got a big car show coming up in Galveston a few weekeds from now.....now I can be educated when I take the car to the dealer......what a grea thing the internet and these forums are

Update: Took car to dealer last Monday and they still have it (today being Friday). The nut and washer fix did not cure the clicking sound. Dealer has ordered a complete new rear axle from GM and it is being shipped in by truck. Definitely a weakness in this rear end......this car only has 2500 miles on the odometer.

I thought the clicking sound was related to the transmission !!

Mine has the clicking noise after every ignition and cold start from 1st to 2nd gear only (automatic 2011 SS with 300km only).. but on the stop and go situations on the road its totally fine, no noise at all ...

is it the same to you guys as well? or is the sound come and goes at all times?

I had this operation done with the washers about 2 months ago on both sides although I only had heard the click/pop coming from the right side. Now, about 2,000 miles later, the same noise is coming from the LEFT side.

So something is not totally fixing this issue permanently or even long term. Like others have said, I will hear the noise (a) if parked and shift into reverse (but not at the actual shift... when the actually moves slightly backwards). (b) When downshifting in manual mode, from say 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st (Rarely hear at upper gears). Pulling away from a stoplight with moderate acceleration.

It is totally NOT consistent though. In the above scenarios, it will happen perhaps 1 out of 3 or 4 times I do those activities, but it's always in those above situations.

But again, what's troubling is the dealer performed the fix on both sides and yet it's back once again.

>>but it sounds like it coming more from the front/middle of the car ?<<

When it was coming from the right side, to me it DID sound like the front or middle. But looking back I now have to assume it's because I'm sitting on the left side of the car far away and the sound is getting warped as it comes through the window on the far right. Now that it's on the left, it def seems to come from the rear although I heard it one time as I was next to a large truck on my left and it did actually sound more like in the middle/rear of the car, not as far back as the wheels... but who am I to say. Again probably a distortion of where one is sitting and the window opening making it sound like it's coming from somewhere else.

The sound is not a "oh my god what is that sound," but more like an air conditioner click on/off sound (but a tad louder). It's not a clunk. It's the sound like a thin piece of metal snapping in two.

Holy freaking crap....

I've been dealing with this since APRIL of 2011. Had the car two years and now clicking...

I have not taken it in since we dropped the car, added bushes, sways, etc and I figured they would not want to look at it. NOW IT'S GOING TO GET FIXED!

SWEET!

I'm taking it in on Tuesday and we are going to get this sh!t fixed once and for all!
