I think that such a powerful is a testament to efficiency. More efficiency is always better, and the fact that a V6 can stand up to modern V8s is truly a show of GM technological advancement. We can look back to the low power in some previous generations of V8s, including the Camaro, that modern motors beat with advanced engine technology that allow them to go more miles with more power to boot. With the rise of gas prices, we may see a temporary drop in power over the next few years, making this V6 competitive with V8s for years to come.

Well, I don't plan on modding my V6 much after I get it, but even 300 horsepower would be enough fun for me. I don't need to be able to hit 60 mph in less than 0.0001 seconds, I just want to be able to have fun and look/sound good doing it, while not being too much of a strain on my wallet.

You pose an interesting question...
I'm a little disappointed that my 94 Z/28 was only rated at 275hp, and the new v6 is 300, but at the same time, I would actually consider buying the V6 now if I couldn't afford a v8 car. My car is plenty fast, and get's excellent fuel mileage for what it is... So good in fact I bet a new v8 5th gen can't compare to what I'm getting in the city... What was GM thinking when they decided to make the v6 put out so much power? Well, I bet they were thinking if any engine that they put in the new Camaro trim level didn't have a crap load of power and rival most anything, that all the whiney baby "enthusiasts" would bitch about it, and the Camaro would die, just like the GTO did... But whatever the real reason for them upping the power, I'm glad they did! |

I was looking the other day at a used car lot, they had a yellow GTO, that thing looked freakin badass...omg..and I can't even imagine what kinda power it truely had. Out of all the sports cars on that lot (Mustangs, Eclipse, CTS, and a few others) - I found the GTO to be THE MOST intriguing. bet that sucker packs a real powerful punch. They didn't have any camaro's on the lot.

If driven properly, this DI'd V6 is going to impress alot of people. The key to it is keeping the revs up and shifting in the sweet spot of the engine. The big V8s are very forgiving because of all the bottom end torque, so you can almost shift whenever and still pull hard. But if the V6 is driven properly, I bet alot of people will be surprised.
People who've owned Japanese and German cars know exactly what I'm talking about. The 4 cylinders from Honda and the inline 6's from BMW will rev forever. Off the line, nothing special, but when you get it into the sweet spot, they will take off. I suspect this is exactly the driving experience that will result in with the 3.6 Camaro. |

Anyway, anything can make power screaming at 6000rpm. I'm only impressed if I can make power without a bunch of ruckus.
