"Pa We are running outta room back there"

My hsuband would say

You have two options- either stand up, grab your man-parts, and face any potential consequences as they happen; or stop hanging out with her.

Don't get the police involved, it isnt your place. If he hasnt done anything directly to you, then you have no right to go screwing with their family life like that. Unless there is obvious evidence that he is physically harming her, then she needs to deal with it herself.

Douche or not, that is his step-daughter, and you have no 'right' to her; whether the douche likes you or not.

Sounds like he doesn't want his little girl to get hurt. You'll understand one day.

I could be wrong but if the "father" hasn't said this to you then she might be making it up...

Agreed. If you can't face the consequences, you aren't ready to be doing anything. Period.

additional info: Past threats are kind of like if i ever see him touch you i will brake his (my) hand... Like I said he has never directly threatened me but he is always telling her little things that he'd do to me.
That is legally defined as assault. It is illegal. Battery is if he actually lays his hands on you.

I thought in order for it to be assault it had to be directly to him? Didn't think saying it to his daughter and her relaying it would count - especially since, in my experience, high school girls tend to blow things considerably out of proportion.

I'm a dad. I will encourage my daughter not to ride in fast cars with boys whenever possible but it will ulitmately be her call. If I don't like the guy I might show some hate too. Be nice to the old man, if you don't feel strongly about her move on.

The "assault" occurs when a person in proximity of the threat AND that threat caused fear. If I hear Joe will beat the crap out of Mike and I tell Mike and then goes to the police, that is hearsay. All Mike has to do is deny he said that. Same holds true for first person. Mike tells Joe he will beat his ass. Do you have an assault, or do you have "threats"? You have by definition, an assault.

How many cases have you heard this....Joe hears from Tom that Mike threatened to beat Joes ass, serves jail time.

None in my 21 year L.E. career.

Here is a legal definition.

What is assault?

Assault is a threatened or attempted physical attack against another by a person who appears to have the ability to cause bodily harm. The threat must cause apprehension or fear of immediate harm in the victim. For example, if someone is holding a knife and says, "I'm going to cut you," that's an assault. But, if the person says, "I'm going to get a knife, find you, and cut you," that threat isn't an assault because the threat is not immediate.

As in the OP, the poster heard the fathers threat through her stepfather towards the poster..the last part pretty much sums it up.... quote...But, if the person says, "I'm going to get a knife, find you, and cut you," that threat isn't an assault because the threat is not immediate.

If indirectly telling someone else that you want to kick their butt is assault, then I guess I should be thrown in jail every weekend when we watch the nascar races. That damn Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson.
