I was once driving down Dixie Farm Road at night, flying along at 55mph in a 45mph zone... as I came up to some construction, I slowed down to 50mph and continued to drive into the 35mph zone that they had put up for a bridge... right before the bridge, hidden in the traffic barrells, was an officer with his lights completely out... by the time I saw him, it was too late... I knew I was busted... so I continued on past the bridge, got around the curve that goes to the left, and pulled my truck well into the grass, rolled down my driver's side window, turned my lights and truck off and had my license and insurance waiting for the officer
sure enough, he came up behind me with his red and blues still off and pulls up behind me before he turns them on... he walks up to the truck and this is the conversation: officer: do you know why you stopped? me: yes, I'm fairly positive I was speeding o: license and registra... oh, you've already got it out... hang on <officer talks on radio for a minute or two... ascertains that I'm not a felon or criminal> o: so, why were you going so fast? m: well, I was speeding in the 45mph zone and just didn't slow down very much as I approached the bridge o: did you know that there was a 35mph zone for the bridge? m: yeah, but I dont know where it begins... all the barrels and construction signs are distracting, ya know. o: well, I gotta tell you, you kinda took all of the fun out of it by pulling over before I even turned my lights on, so I'm going to let you go with just a verbal warning... watch the speed signs a little more carefully and remember that the speed zones are there for a reason. m: will do, officer... and thank you very much. not even a written warning... all because I was honest

Drat, I've tried that tactic and it didn't work for me. :(
