People ask me about my mpg. I say it's a 6.2 liter V8 with headers. If I need to think about mpg I would have bought a prius.

I gotcha. 30 is really pushing it. Unless you're going downhill in neutral I don't see that happening haha.

No one here in an 8 Cylinder is getting anything about 25mpg on a flat surface.

I have headers, cai and a tune... pure bolt ons, you're not getting much more than 23... MAYBE 24mpg under 2kpm.

23.8 @ 75 MPH and no traffic on the interstate.
Sure can. As I stated I did have a push wind for half the trip.

The best I've got is 24 which sux. I figured I would get better than an 8 with a 6 and that was on a 252 mi trip to Orlando and back with cruise set to 79 most of the way. Around town, maybe 16-18 if I baby it. My salesman lied to me. Dammit, I could have had a V8

One thing to consider when you hear of some getting amazing MPG, is how are they measuring it?
I know a few that reset thier fuel computer often if not daily. So if one day they had a lot of down hill driving, it would show a high MPG average.

I never reset mine unless I did a modification, or maybe if I am taking a road trip.
Additionally, I use the old school measure with all my cars. On every fill up I reset the trip meter, so next fill up I divide how many gallons it took to refill to the miles on the trip meter.

I have found that most cars I have owned, even got slightly less MPG than the computer said.

Even then, you should work with an average over several fills. There is almost no way to guarantee that every fill was to exactly the same level as the fill before it.

In general, a 2 to 1 ratio of mpg between actual highway and actual city is not out of the question.

Tony - I grew up in SE MA, and from what I remember the driving up there in an overall sense never approximated "highway". Certainly doesn't when I go back to visit, mostly little towns and small cities, with roads with traffic lights instead of Interstates connecting most of them.

So I actually stand corrected, I hopped on the highway last night after work and had about a solid 15 mile commute.

Went ahead and reset the mpg right after cruise control.

Kept it under 2k rpm and left it on cruise control going 67mph. Purposely left it on 67mph to stay 2mph above the speed limit .... still was under 2k rpm the entire time.

Pleasantly surprised to see that after a few minutes of going down from 40mpg it stayed put just north of 25mpg.

So if you baby these things and drive like a granny, you'll definitely see some very nice mpg in return!!

I'll do another trial run to and from work all week and average out my highway mpg.

I've got a '15 1LT V6. For the first year and a few months I was running tap shift mode and resetting the car's MPG counter every fill up. Over the course of a tankful I would get around 19+-. Didn't ever reset mid-tank. I forget when exactly I stopped using tap shift last year but this past January I started a 6 month "study", no tap shift, D mode only and the MPG counter is currently sitting at 21.9 with almost 3K miles on the trip meter I haven't reset since January. My daily drive is about 13 miles one way, with both unlimited access highway speeds for 10 miles and city for the rest, with an average speed under 35MPH, usually. Been running 87octane (yes I know, blasphemy) since I picked up the car in September of 2015. Plan to switch to 93 on either my last fill up in Jun or first in July and reset everything. Along those lines, does anyone know how long it's likely to take for the ECU or whatever else needs to, to change over to the higher octane tables?

Car has just under 15K on the odometer at the moment. Looking forward to a long trip to Michigan the end of the month and see how much higher that MPG counter gets to.

That's interesting but not the real world driving. I'm sure if you inflated
your tires to 50 psi you could do better. Give that a try next.
