What irks me is taking advantage of the opportunity to gouge. No doubt these hurricanes have SOME impact on fuel prices. But we get a significant amount of oil from Canada too. No hurricane...never let a good crisis go to waste!

Things are getting crazy down here in Florida. Driving home from my job this morning I had to do 55 MPH the entire way home (in a 70 MPH zone), because two FL State Troopers were escorting a Sunoco fuel truck to its unloading point and they wouldn't let anyone pass.

You can't find gas anywhere, and if you can, it's an absolute mess. Lines carrying out to the main roads blocking traffic.

I fully expect gas prices to get well over $4 a gallon for 93 octane. I paid $3.39 for 93 yesterday.

You are incorrect.

Have you not factored in the price of Funneling in oil from a different country thousands of miles away to South Texas for a few days?

Come on now.

Wow, they made you slow down and conserve gasoline as if there is no more to be had. How rude.

Wait until you start running a generator at a cost of $20-30/day instead of your usual $5-7/day from the power company.

I have another example. We have a refinery in Richmond, CA. I few years ago there was a fire at the refinery. Gas prices went up. I don't know what you do for a living but in most industries - including mine, I cannot raise prices on my products simply because of the crisis du jour, whether our fault or an act of God. Maybe the price should come DOWN so that product can be "funneled" here economically and actually help in in a crisis.

Oil is a dubious commodity. Considering the tenuous relationships between suppliers and consumers and oil's role in the global economy. It's the only commodity that will see a price spike if there is merely a fear that something may or may not happen. Throw in something of substance, like a refinery shutting down for any reason, for any amount of time, and it's 1974 all over again.

Filled up yesterday, $2.79 for 91 octane. This is only up a couple cents since before Labor Day, which is pretty typical for this time of year. Fortunately, unlike some states, here in Nevada they are not using a natural disaster in one part of the country to jack up prices and rip consumers off.

I was not complaining, I was simply stating what I witnessed this morning.

Honestly, I would not have expected anything less from you. Stellar post, as usual.

E54 in Arizona went from around 1.85/1.95 to 2.25/gallon in a couple days.

When you typed "I had to" it implies that your patience was being tried, thus a complaint.

I hope you get through the storm without harm.
