All I can say is that the Z/28 has the legendary air about it. That cannot be taken away. On the other hand, the new 1LE is quicker and takes a different path to achieve the same goal, to be ultimate track machines. Either way they are both track focused and attack that point from different angles. The Z/28 has more of the "Track Focus" with the little to no creature features where the new 1LE has all of the nice amenities. It truly depends on what you are mostly using the car for. I can say for a fact that the new 1LE will be much more comfortable for regular road driving with mag ride and more street focused tires. If you want to take it even further, the powertrain is another point that anyone can argue. No matter what, like I said, they are both performance machines that dominate the track, whether "For their time" or not. They are Chevy's performance models that lead and have run the realm of performance, track oriented cars. No need to bicker.

Another completely subjective topic getting beaten into a fine powder by the C5 faithful.

"Like what you drive, drive what you like!".

IMHO, both cars are fantastic. The Z/28 is an exclusive, purpose-built track monster. The 6th Gen 1LE takes advantage of the improved chassis, lower weight and mag ride. Both are amazing machines!

SMH.. the level of "holier-than-thou" on that discussion is exhausting. Even with all of the numbers put down on how which is faster the SS 1LE is, etc... I wouldn't trade my Z for anything. This car has been everything I've ever hoped to drive, and more. My wife is constantly laughing at me because I keep going on and on about how much I love to drive it, when we drive it. All that crap about it not being a daily is just that: crap. I drive it everywhere I can. And I haven't even tracked mine yet!

Thats my only real issue with the thread. The constant talk/videos/reviews about how "OMG this thing will eventually snap you in half" if you drive it on the road is ridiculous. The rest of it, sure lets talk about the SS 1le, being better faster, etc etc. BUT, dont tell me its a "trailer to track, track it, trailer it back home" that is absurd.

Otherwise, debate on!

Bingo! The Z/28 is a great daily driver, anyone else who thinks otherwise, need not apply.

I love the idea of the newer chassis being so good that it needs less power and still has similar performance to the z28. I'd love to drive the SS 1LE and see how good it is. My main problem with the package is the pricing puts it in the 40s. Hard to justify that when the ZL1 is in the 50s now. Even with the common camaro looks Id say the 6th gen is the best all around rwd sports coupe on the market for any budget.

That being said the LS7 makes the Z28 sound godly at WOT. It makes the experience. I tried to make a move to the 17 grandsport but the experience from the LT1 wasn't as in your face as the LS7.

Gen6 is ugly. I look at one every day on my way through the parking garage to work. The Z is just plain badass. Lots of faster cars. Not many that are better. I have exotics slow down and give me thumbs up. People go nuts over it. Why? Because it oozes charisma and has cult like status. Those of us who own one know this. That’s all that matters.

[QUOTE=Gen6_1Le;10004955]Well price point is one thing but also being faster at Laguna seca then the gen 5 z28 says a lot about the gen6.

1LE is a great car. It’s just not a Z. No shame in that.

Exactly. I get tired of the constant looking down the nose. This came first. Your car was designed after it. For a reason.

That's what I'm saying. The stiff suspension is exactly what I want. Lets me know what the cars doing! I apologize to my wife automatically when we're out and hit rough road and she gives me a hard time because it's the roads fault, not the car.

THIS. We paid $35.9K for the Z. I mean, even with 45k miles on it, it doesn't act like it. Another $10k into it and we can get 675-700 bhp.. and that's still in competition with the 1LE in cost, but way better in the other departments... since most of what their argument is that it's cheaper for "similar" performance, therefore it must be better. Apples <-> oranges, I know, but still. I still get giddy thinking of almost 700hp out of a base factory engine.

Good price! That much power from the LS7 can be done, but very carefully.

You won't believe what almost 700 hp under the hood is like, I know because that'd what I have. It goes way beyond "giddy", it's friggin AWESOME!

I would consider the 6th Gen 1LE Camaro if I did not already have my Z. It IS a lot of car for the money and the interior/electronics are light years ahead of the 5th Gen.

But - it does not have that magical 427 under the hood.
