I really want gears as well but the price tag so far is already pretty hefty.

Thanks man! Gears are next for sure!

You can get the 3.91s from Ted Janetty for a really good price, thats where I got mine. Or theres 4.10s from Motive.

If I could go back, I would have done 4.10s instead. 4.10s, an LPW diff cover, and BMR delrin diff bushings all at once.

Sounds aggressive, but that’s what everyone said about 3.91’s years ago.

I've never seen anyone really advocate for 4.10's in an L99 because of our super aggressive first gear.
https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420979

And I remember asking RPM Motorsports in Delaware how much they would charge to install 3.91's and they said they didn't even recommend that much of gear in an L99. Now, I think their advice was crap because tons of people here have 3.91's (myself included) and love them.

Agreed, 3.91’s are on my mod list.

I was super fickle on whether or not to get the 3.91's or a converter, but after realizing the converter wouldn't help much on the highway (where I spend most of my time) I decided to get the gears. I love them so far and I'm sure once I get the converter they'll work even better.

The reason I say this is because with bolt-ons, GPI's SMALLEST VVT cam, a UDP, and ported rod mod intake manifold guys are making 450 RWHP easy. That is not with ported heads either, and so I'm surprised that with a Stage 2 cam and ported heads we are expecting less than that.

What am I missing here? Also, back on the topic of converters, but did you talk with Circle D or any other converter makers? Circle D told me to go with a 3600 even if I wasn't going with a cam, Yank told me 3200, and so on, so why a 3000 for a cammed auto?
GPI cams run a bit bit bigger than other companies from what I’ve seen. Still, someone getting 450 from a stg 1 with no head work I’d be cautious about. I’d need to see some slips to back up those numbers.

Me as well, I’m never launching from a dig. So I didn’t need a crazy converter for the cam. But gears would pull the whole package together nicely, what’s the speed limit where you are? I live on the I40 and do 80 reagularly would that put me around 2400 rpm at 80?

The speed limit is about 55 in most places where I go, but I'm generally always doing 10 over. I was worried I would have drone at 65, but it's quiet even with longtubes, no cats and an x-pipe.

Heres the gear thread

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...4#post10401294

Z wanted 3.91s at first, but after acammer explained everything, he went 4.10 instead and is very happy with those gears. Acammer puts out a LOT of good information in this thread. Like he said, these are 3800 lb + cars with 28" tall tires. Naturally aspirated setups have a lot of benefit from the extra gear.

LCPLPunk, what converter did you mean? When I lay into the throttle on the highway, my RPMs instantly shoot up to 7k and climb and I am at 100mph pretty quickly. When cruising, it feels similar to stock, but as soon as you get on it, its awesome!
