When my wife had her 2LT, we kept it simple. Went with Flowmaster American Thunder axle back, cold air intake and gill accents. Other than that we just kept it clean, or I should say I kept them clean. We also had a 2010 Transformer Edition with LS3, a his and her's set.

New wheels would be my choice.

When I had my v6, I went for an intake, throttle body, catch cans, wheels.

The wheels were the biggest difference for me.

I like your car! I would have loved to have that when I was 18! I can’t wait to see what you do to make it yours. That V6 would have probably gotten me in trouble at your age.

My first car at 18 was an '80 Z28 350/auto... and the Gen5 LT would punch it in the face and take it's lunch.

For $1k, that will go fast. I'd probably be looking for some wheels/tires that someone's unloading. This is an upgrade that changes the entire character of the car, both visually and performance-wise.

After wheels, I'd go springs & sways.

After that, axle back & CAI. I had an SLP PowerFlo on my 2010 2LT. Loved it.

After that (there is always a never-ending list of "after that") would be brakes.

Etc. etc. etc.

The wife won't let me do a damned thing to the 2014 2LT though. Hoping she buys a Jeep and the '14 will become MY daily.

If I was 18, you know what I would do with it?
I’d drive it.... Save your money and enjoy the car. Unless you have a disposable income and a scholarship.

Personally if I were you I'd either save that money, make an extra car payment or put it towards school; hold off any mods for now and just enjoy your new ride.

it looks good now.just drive and enjoy it and look around, maybe some cosmetic mod will catch your eye.in the meantime nothing wrong with keeping the extra thousand bucks in your pocket.ive had my RS 3 years now and all ive done is get the old stripes removed and another slightly different set installed.

You sold the Iroc?

I don't think I could ever part with my GTA. There's just too much blood, sweat and tears in that one. Did the wife force you to sell it?

I'd start with a CAI and save the rest of your money, at least for a while. Provides a few benefits and you'll notice an improvement in sound. Everyone's situation is different, but things often change a lot the years after 18.. deciding on more school, jobs/careers, moving, etc. Those decisions affect what you'll need that money for and what you'll need the car to be, so I recommend staying flexible, frustrating as that might sound.

Great car young man!

I'd save the money and head over to the Cosmetics/Detailing forum. There is much to learn on proper washing, waxing and sealing. Two bucket, foam gun, waterless, etc. I find detailing to be extremely relaxing and fun.

Also I'd read up on upper induction cleaning/intake valves on direct injection engines.

The wife actually demanded I not sell it, but we were in a financial pickle due to our 'friend' we were renting a house from, who decided to sell it out from under us with no warning. 2 weeks to find a place and get moved. Had to flip both the IROC and her Miata. Good times.
