No doubt a modded car is hard to sell. I've had mine listed all summer without one serious bite though I'm trying real hard to get rid of it yet.

Last year, I got $23.5k for my SS on trade (16k miles). Cammed, exhaust, suspension, etc., etc., etc..

GLWS!
Sounds low for what you put into it. Low due to "trade" with dealer. Never sell an updated car to a dealer. Sure, it's easier, but that ease will cost you money. I had a friend sell me his record collection for $2000. I told him if he just sold them himself online individually, he could bring in way more. He didn't want the hassle. Fair enough. I bought them and within 3 months I sold them for $6000.

Worth = what a buyer is willing to pay

In our hearts and minds, our cars are worth so much more than they really are. The best way to see dollar value, you'll need to look at KBB.com or NADA.com. Now before you even think it, I know "but i put $XXXXXX into my car so it's worth more than that!" Not necessarily. Again, refer to the first line of this reply. On Kelley Blue Book and NADA, there's a "trade in" value and a "private sale" value. Trade is value is what you're lucky to get from a dealership. Private sale is just that, and our best way to get more for our cars.

Not what anyone wanted to hear, but reality is what it is. You have great stuff on the vehicle.

I was not afraid of buying a heavily modded car. As suggested earlier I had a mechanic/engine builder go over it, do a leak down, compression test, visual inspection drive etc.. Nothing still guaranteed I would not have a problem though. Didn't worry me though even if you mod your own ride or take it to a shop plenty of people have had problems. Did the last guy race it, I'm sure! Did it bother me not really as I knew all the money spent on the build and couldn't have come close to modding it for what I gave. Will something break or give out eventually I'm certain, but if you can't afford to play with your toys then don't get toys.
Suppose what I'm getting at is there is usually a market for all types of vehicles and wish you the best with the sale. Wouldn't be afraid to ask what you want for the car worst you could here is no. In the end just have to find the right buyer in the right market. IMHO
GLWS on your awesome build!

You are very rarely going to recoup your money from modding. You do it for the fun of it. Sure, I could've sat around and waited for that one buyer that wanted a heavily modified, wrapped, etc. SS convertible, but why? Some kid that probably needs a loan, his Daddy's say-so, etc., etc., etc.. I've been modding my cars and motorcycles for years. If you do it in hopes to make a buck, you're barking up the wrong tree. On KBB and NADA, the car only booked for ~$20k on trade. I got more than what I wanted.

I agree on all points. I'm fully aware that I would never recoup the money spent on mods, however I refuse to give them away for nothing. I do know that I will not sell it for whatever trade-in or private sale value is listed in NADA, KBB, etc.
Again, I'm not in a hurry to sell, I was just looking for advice on a fair starting price, a price that would help attract the right buyer. This car is definitely not for the average consumer.

Who knows, maybe I'll just keep it and build a 416 this winter.....

That's a good idea.

There was no way I was going to let my car go for $20k per KBB or NADA. The dealer came back with $22.5k, I countered with $23.5 and they agreed. These cars are a dime a dozen and even if you put $15k worth of mods into a $25k car...you STILL have a $25k car (unless you find that one person that REALLY wants it).

- 2.9L Whipple, 3.625" Grip-Tec pulley
- LT headers (1-7/8")
- full 3" exhaust
- ported stock heads
- custom blower cam (227/243 @115) w/springs
- solid trunnion bushings
- 115lb/hr injectors (@58psi)
- twin AGP fuel pump system, E85 compatible
- Alky Control Methanol system w/4-gal trunk tank
- Active Interchiller (non-competition)
- A-pillar dual gauge pod (boost and A/F)
- Rohanna wheels, 315/30 and 275/40

Now, for the important stuff....

@ ~10.5 psi, on 93-Octane - 745/636 rear wheel
, on E85 - 806/676 rear wheel

Both of those runs were without Methanol.

Is this worth $28-30K? To low? To high? Out in left field?

Thanks,
Scott
Even though you have all those mods, the price is too high in my opinion. You are going to have to find that specific buyer who wants all that, good luck! I sold a car last year and didn't get nearly what I wanted for it and it was all original with only 7800 miles on it. Should have gotten between 16k & 18K and I was only able to get 11K for it. Good luck! Hope you find the right buyer!

There's dozens of 5th Gen Camaros for sale out there. Just look on eBay.
When I ordered my SS new 10+ years ago it was MSRP+.
Today it's all about quantity and demand.
Good luck with your sale.

An example of hard to get a buyer to pay for mods. $60k car $60k mods and not bid past $22k at this point. A 6 year old daily driver quality car simply isn't going to return your investment.
I like some of these cars, but I too wouldn't pay much over private party value.

That car does nothing for me cosmetically. The wheels---meh. The paint has marks, which black shows a lot of. 64,000 miles is not new as well. The main attraction here is the engine and all the horsepower put into it. And that may be a turn off for some people. 900 Horsepower?? Wow, you better know how to drive that baby or introduce yourself to a tree. Great track car, but no looker in my opinion.
