Ooo I like the chambered exhaust. I think I'll be getting something similar for my 5th gen. Whether or not you prefer Borla, its nice to finally get some great news after having to read through countless "no Z28 yet" "why are some options not available at launch" and "GM/Camaro are dead" threads. The aftermarket for this car is going to be awesome. Sadly, I'll be pretty limited by warranty concerns, my budget, and worst of all, the dreaded CARB.

Do you mean the big blue room?

A traditional exhaust system (one that is not a straight pipe style system) has a muffler (the final box you are thinking of) in order to control the volume of the exhaust leaving the vehicle. They do not treat the exhaust in any way or make it any less toxic. The only component in an exhaust system that treats the exhaust gas in any way is a catalytic converter (more commonly called a "cat").

In the GMMG system the traditional muffler has been replaced with an enlarged pipe segment with chambers in it (the indents in the cross over pipes) to help control the volume of the exhaust while causing as minimal resistance to the flow of the exhaust gases (back pressure) as possible. Remember that some back pressure is actually necessary for the modern day engine to run at optimal efficiency. However the amount necessary is significantly less then what a stock exhaust system introduces into the exhaust system.

CORSA + HEADERS (and maybe cat-backs) = V8 BLISS!!!

To the OP - thanks for posting. You have confirmed what we already surmised - the 5th gen will be an aftermarketer's paradise!!! And we will have ~countless~ choices in which to customize our new 'Maros!!!

Fantastic news!!!

Borla...no kidding. I'll be anxiously awaiting the stock sound of my SS V8. I was thinking of going aftermarket, but GM just might be making our aftermarket dreams come true! Now....for headers..........

Thx for the info ^^

It 's bound to have probs running on the street with all that noise though. Well at least here we have - the other day the police stopped me because they THOUGHT my exhaust pipes were TOO BIG therefore they WOULD do a lot of noise. It 's a good thing those came with ISO standards for the noise lvls.

Frigin smurfs...

X2, The GMMG sounds nice but the Corsa is a little quiter at cruising speeds. If I build the motor and stop driving my SS to work and on errands I would go with a GMMG.

I used to think that was more or less until I had kids. Then when punks would rev their engines or go WOT in front of my house I’d give them the Hairy Eyeball and swear if they woke my kid up after taking an hour to get them to sleep I’d actually kill them and run them over with their car.

As for aftermarket exhaust for my future Camaro, the thought of spending 500-700 dollars apalls me. I'd rather spend 100 bucks on the muffler from the cat back set and make my own. Cut out the old muffler/resonator and weld in the new one. I can't see the minute performance/sound gains being worth paying 5X more.
I have to admit I know there is are other things I would rather spend $500-$700 on. I'm going to hold out until we get a better idea on pipe size and if they add a resonator where there is one on the G8. If you look at the powertrain shots that have been released, there is what looks like a very nice X-pipe where the resonator is on a G8, so I'm encouraged. I'm hoping the V8 models will come with three-inch pipes so that I can just focus spending a few hundred bucks on some nice stainless mufflers. In the event they don't come with the three-inch pipes, I'll consider a catback. The tips don't look too bad to me now, and who knows how things will pan out with the ground effects kit and what not.
