a few more notes from my one-day test drive:

- overall measured gas mileage was pretty amazing -- 26 MPG based on total miles traveled divided by fuel used based on a fill-up before turning in the rental -- this was with a good portion of stop-and-go city driving; not pushing the car too hard (traffic here in Florida did not permit that) but gassing it whenever the opportunity arose; definitely not driving super-economical

- the suspension is a little clunky -- meaning makes clunking noises going over bumps . . . not sure if this is typical or an issue with this particular car

- the steering wheel design is weird . . . I couldn't figure out where the designers had in mind that you should hold it, I tried lots of places but none of them feel quite right . . . not bad, but a little weird

- the steering wheel was a little crooked -- turned to the left while car going straight -- probably the alignment issue that I've seen mentioned in a tread or two

- as has been mentioned in other threads, the passenger seat is uncomfortably low, leaves the passenger with a good view of the dashboard but that's about it

I also rented a Mustang . . . unfortunately only the V6 Mustang is available for rental; but there is no comparison -- the Camaro is just way cooler, no contest . . . . the only advantage of the Mustang is that is more like a "normal" car, meaning it has better visibility and easier in/out access . . . left me really wanting a camaro, only luke-warm on the Mustang (GT might be a different story)

So we'll see what happens in the spring, need to save some pennies and let my wife warm up to the idea

If I were you I'd try the SS 6M. No comparison. Drove it once about 3miles, I was hooked. Bought it on the spot

That's exactly why I WON'T drive an SS - I KNOW I'd want it over the V6 - kind of "Want vs Need cage match" - I need the MPG and should keep it under $30K

Yeah, whatever you do, don't drive the SS !!!

I have had a woody for the past six months because of this car !!!

I know they say you should see a Dr. after 4 hours, but I am enjoying it too much.

LOL! I don't have a choice as this is my only car. Believe it or not, I can still fit my whole 5-piece drum kit in my SS (there's no room for passengers though in that case). Believe me, I measured the trunk opening very carefully before ordering. It's just deep enough to get the all-important hardware bag (I call it a "body bag" because it's that big!) in the trunk.

Do your research. I'm sure there's a few dealers on here that can hook you up with a 1SS for close to $30k. Of course, mpg will suffer because you won't be able to stop punching the throttle

Edit: There's a guy up at Newman Chevy in Wisconsin that's been throwing out some good numbers.

I wish I could fit my bass rig but the 4x10 Eden cabinet is a killer. Plus chucking my basses in the back seat is asking for major scuffs.
