I ordered the red bolsters and belts but when I found out the bolsters were a shiny red vinyl / pleather and not suede alcantara, I deleted them......imo they would look better in an SS with all leather, not the ZL1.....

Man I wouldn’t even think twice about this. I agree with what others have said, take the back road instead and change gear to vary rpm. Also vary your speed a bit. It will be the best 300 miles of your life! The only extra thing I would do is buy rock guards and install them before heading out

While I bought used, I didn't hesistate to drive it from centeral Florida to west Louisiana, 750ish miles. Previous car was a Audi S7 that I bought in Vegas and drove back to west Louisiana 1500 miles away. I hope to do this for every vehicle from here on out, win-win... save money, get to know the car and my favorite, solo time driving across the country!

The kneepads are just standard GM "pleather". I guess if it was Alcantara, resting your knee during high speed cornering may make it a little slick. For me, it just breaks up the monotony of the black/grey interior. |

Nevertheless, the alcantara pads are still available as an accessory, and putting them on is trivial. The red (p)leather knee pads are also popular and a very easy sell.

I can confirm the red kneepads in the ZL1 are *not* Alcantara, but rather (p)leather And as a few people mentioned on these forums before, they are surprisingly hard to the touch, and therefore serve more as visual appearance than as a cushion for your knees.

Did your dealer give you the original ones (black with red stitching) since it was an option?

Unless the new ZL1s changed the kneepads up to save money, they've been alcantara in 17-up. Alcantara is not slick, it's got a fabric texture which should help you in turns over a pleather one.

The dealer is going to send me pics and video shortly. I could've swore they were alcantara.

Gas caps and shifter caps options are still dealer-installed, so you would be provided the originals, but not dash plate and kneepads. Geoff |

Heat cycles vs miles, Its pretty much a well know fact, heat cycles are better for brake in for any ICE, take a car that someone just drives normally, no up and down on the throttle etc, even with heat cycles it might not break in properly, uses oil, less power etc. Any serious engine builder will heat cycle 3-4 times,(RPM Loading)and straight to the dyno or track, It is best to let the motor get hot then cold, hot/cold 7-8 hours between, These motors will run better than the grandmother driven ones. My car came with 2,600 miles I know the guy babied it, it uses half a quart or (1/4 here, 1/4 there)a whole quart every factory recommended oil change, but it runs good, and he was in Houston, I'm in East Texas with lots of back roads, so I run her every now and then, once or twice a week the 1-3 is getting a close to red line shift. That's what it's made for.

I think I'm going to drive the 126 miles and get a tow back the rest 200 miles. Well see. The dealer is now pushing for me to sign a contract since they will not hold it longer than a week with just a deposit. Hopefully they still have it next week or this may just be a moot point.
