I didn't think the ZL1 was an actual option that you could get back in 02'. Last i read on this ( and believe me this was a long freakin time ago) there was just a group of guys at GM trying to build a ZL1 that could be a factory, but never got approved. Is it those prototypes that you are talking about, or did they actually build this thing. I don't know that much about the gen4 camaros so would any one care to educate me??

They were actually built by GMMG, licensed by GM. Only 69 were to be built, and a few orders are still unfilled....Not sure if they will be. It took a very hefty upfront deposit, and a very long wait, to get one. I think the project got sidestepped by the Dick Harrell project.

I think they were rated at 400. IF the DH car lifted its wheels, it wasn't because of the way it came stock (stock as in from GMMG). Actually, the motors were all built by D.E.I.

They need to make a stripped down, race-ready version of the Camaro.

They were WAY under-rated at 400hp. They were custom builds, I'm sure options and hp ratings were all over the scale on the various cars. Did an un-modified GMMG car lift the left front? Quite possibly yes. A second look at the photo doesn't look like it had the flared fenders ala Harrell, but still... http://gmmginc.net/media/Press/ChevyHighPerf_102004.pdf
Check out photos 9 and 10 at the bottom. Ask that guy, he should know.

Call me up next time you are in the north ATL area, i will introduce you to the guys that "custom built" the engines (Mike, Ron, Billy and Kevin). And show you a crate or 2 they came in. The pics you see with the wheels off the ground isn't one of the 69 ZL1s. They were good for about 400 at the wheels.
NOT an argument with you, just friendly debate

Another point in this is that the 4th gen ZL1s DID NOT HAVE a 427! Thought i would point that out before someone called us doofus's!

I just may take you up on that! Get thru there all the time. Check out THE CARS, then ZL1 Supercar, then go to photo 10. What car is that? I think I know, but it sounds like your inside the loop so I'm all ears. Where did the 427's come from? I.E. Grumpy Jenkins car?

The 427's in the DH cars and a handful of others are C5R blocks. Again, supplied by DEI. I am not sure, but will find out today, i think they were GM crate longblocks. I think they also did a few silverados for Home Depot with the 427 and a 6 speed. How much fun would that be?!
