well the answer to this whole silly thread is pretty simple.
RESEARCH then TEST DRIVE. Then pick what traits you like that each model offers and what you or your friend value and can afford. Take anything you read here with a grain of salt. (including this LOL) |

I drove both before settling on the SS (but to be honest, I had half made up my mind before I drove them!
). The V6 drives well but the SS is a huge difference.I would recommend he simply drive both and decide for himself. Quote:

I have driven both and there is no comparison. Obviously, there is a big price difference, but it’s worth it for the SS. I just purchased a 1SS and I love it! I researched the Camaro for six months prior to buying one and to say the least I did a lot of test driving within that time (pissed off a lot of dealers), and the SS performs much better. Go with the SS you won’t regret it!

02 Z28 was rated at 310 hp, but the manual LS1 z28s dynoed over 300rwhp. In reality, they were making every bit of 350hp at the crank. But the V6 Camaro has plenty of performance for the average Joe.

If money is at all a factor get the V6. The V8 is an expensive car to buy AND maintain. Tires, gas, brakes, insurance, tickets, they all add up. The V6 is great if he gets the manual he have a real fun car.

Well if he gets the RS package (which he should) for the V6 his tire maintenance will be the same as the SS.

1st Camaro, Love it

You just have to know what you want. Those that are saying V8 because you don't want to have to upgrade later are going to have to look at upgrading themselves when the Z28 comes out.

I have driven both (each was an automatic). Prefer the V8. I personally found a noticable difference in power. I ordered mine with the V8.

I haven't driven a SS but my buddy has a C6 '09 Vette and I've had that out for a spin and he's driven my 2LT Camaro. He was truly impressed with the performance of the LLT and of course I was equally blown away by his LS3.
My buddy is very active within the Vette community and Z06, ZR1 owners don't think that the LS3 has plenty of power for the average Joe. They respect all Vettes. To the OP, tell your buddy to get what he wants and can afford. Don't fall prey to what someone else thinks is best for you. |

For those who aren't interested in dragging from stoplight to stoplight, the V6 is just fine. Get a V6 with the options you like.

She makes an important point about about the limited slip. Is your friend planning to ever drive his Camaro on snowy roads? All SS Camaros (auto or stick) have positraction. The V-6 Camaro with a stick has positraction standard, positraction is not available on the V-6 Camaro with an automatic. The BEST choice for a Camaro that will be driven in bad weather is proably a V-6 manual without the 20" summer performance tires.
