I have the same issue with my exhaust, I tested for this condition and it does exist in my 2011. I also looked around for other things that may be wrong and found a plastic shield that covers the fuel lines on the right side of the car that is loose. If you look at the back of the shield there appears to be mount bolt holes on each side and neither one has a bolt in it. If you flip it, it vibrates against the body of the car and makes a buzzing sound. I assume that this is one of my noises. I am going to take it in after the GM rep gets back to me.
Good luck with your rattle.

Just got an update, 4th day at the shop. None of the technicians can hear the rattle.
I'm going to try to record it with my cellphone or a laptop I guess, and then take it back in and play the recording. The dealership doesn't have access to a dyno, or they could probably reproduce it immediately. Jeff M, this buzzing rattle sounds almost like the top of a tin can being spun on a dremel against rough concrete, and it's coming from the passenger side rear end under the vehicle. bzzZZZZEEEE bbzzzzzEEEE. It *only* happens at 1400 RPMs under heavy throttle. Higher gears stay in this range longer because there isn't enough horsepower to get out of the RPM range very quickly. Even so, the longest it lasts is about 3 seconds. But that means in 6th gear ever time I accelerate it happens for three seconds, which is long and often in slow moving heavy traffic. Any thoughts/suggestions? |

Unfortunately there isn't any documentation that I can see that would provide a fix for these issues at this time. I've been looking to make sure I am as up to date on this as possible and I haven't found anything that would resolve this. Sorry I can't be of more help in this situation.

Jeff M, if I have a notary public ride with me and verify the noise, and then deliver notarized documentation to Chevrolet or a dealership, will that be enough proof to get warranty part replacements done when the grinding part finally fails, regardless of warranty period?
That's my main worry. That the buzzing continues the life of the vehicle until, say, the differential or something finally destroys itself outside of the warranty. |

I'm sorry maldon but I am unsure as to whether notorized documents would be accepted as proof for warranty repairs. I would think it would be up to the dealer to accept that type of evidence but again I am not sure.

I don't have ground effects. Maybe the ones on the tail lights?

Also, my buzzing only happens when the clutch is engaged, but I guess anything in the rear end would buzz more loudly if the drivetrain was fully engaged due since the engine would now be fully connected to it.

This morning it was colder than usual out, and I had the same pitched buzz when the engine was turning over right as the car started up.
This was in neutral, though, and all other times I get the buzz while driving, it's in gear. Hrm. Anyone know if this could be the same sound, or know anything about a buzz at startup when the engine is cold? |

The technical service bulletin on the first page tells what the problem is and when I tested for this condition I found the rattle. The exhaust didn't change from 2010 to 2011 so this bulletin still applies.
I had the GFX rattle as well, the dealership fixed that by adjusting the bezels so that they didn't rub on the exhaust. I have been chatting with a GM rep and hopefully they will give me a solution prior to me going back to the dealership. We shall see. How ever it gets fixed, I will not be living with it too much longer.

Currently at this time there isn't a fix but we are working to resolve these issues. When I get better information I will let you all know. I'm sorry for the confusion.

I forgot to post an update for this. I finally took it to a different Chevrolet dealership, and after a few tries my service rep was able to reproduce the buzzing with the service manager, who *had* to witness it in order to authorize any warranty replacements. Understandable, but still annoying. It seemed like it was only reproducible after the car was warm and driven 5+ miles.
Anyhow, after that, they replaced both mufflers, and the buzzing was gone. Sweet blissful rumble is all that's left. I really appreciate the work Reliable Chevrolet did to track this down. So many thanks to them for saving my sanity. |
