First off, very nice choice! Very unique, and innovative.

Now, I understand the warranty aspect, but what is the projected life on it? And, could you possibly give the link/contact info for the company you worked with to get it? You're right in that $3500 is far cheaper than a custom paint job and if it's paint&clearcoat over vinyl, and you can buff, wax, wash it... might be something to advocate here.

To be honest, if I heard you tell me about your idea, I would have told you to not do it (just doesn't sound right). After seeing pictures, I think it turned out great.

Looks great. I think you need to add some new wheels, that would just finish it off.

Buelligun (Post #29): Wouldn't it have been cheaper to start w/ white and change the top half?
Yep, it would have. But I started with a CGM car, then decided what I wanted to do. The shop asked me to just do a different color on the top because it would have been much easier for them. However, this is what I wanted and it gives me a layer of protection on the entire bottom half of the car. You don't get many door dings or scrapes on the roof or hood.

Chevy2tehBone (post #31): Life expectancy and a link?
Comes down to maintenance and how the car is treated for life span. The Camaro is my 2nd car, so it doesn't have to go out on bad weather days, that should extend the life alot. I see plenty of 15-20 year old trucks with vinyl decorations where the vinyl is still adhering but is faded and cracked. The painted surface on mine should out last those.

While I am not sure, I certainly expect it to still be looking good 7 years from now. And by then, I may want a whole new look. Who knows?

The manufacturer is: www.flxpaint.com

Thanks WhamSlam3. One small point...I didn't leave the spears white, I made them white by adding the paint wrap there. And then had the "304hp" cut out of the candy copper color and applied on top of that.

Yeah, 04Hemi I know what you mean. I took me a couple of months to decide to do this. Knowing I would be able to give up and peel it all off helped a little with making the commitment. But the idea of throwing away all of that money didn't sound good. I am thrilled with the results.

Did you see the install?
I was wondering how he trimmed, like the top part on the side without, cutting/scratching the real paint.
Thanks

Yes, I visited several times during the install. Before hand when I asked how it was done, the reply was..."Do you really want to know?"

The answer is, they cut it with a razor blade. Argggghhhhh. Sorry I asked.

But this is part of the "art" to the process. The first thing they did was the passenger door, and later they peeled it off and did it over. The installer was very proud of his work and when the material was off he challenged me to find a single scratch where the first install had been trimmed. I couldn't find the slightest mark, scratch, nick...anything.

You have to take it on faith a little, and on reference/reputation a lot. Those who are good at installing clear mask material have the experience and feel for how deep to cut so you don't nick the pain but the material will seperate cleanly.

You can see in one picture how they "over installed" the material and then used a vinyl pin stip to define the cut line. Zach then used a razor blade and his skill to trim it off.

My advice? Don't watch this part if it is your car.

I agree. Some rims that pull in CGM from the roof and hood would seal the deal.

New rims? That's what the shop suggested, too.

Guess maybe I should start a collection. Anyone want to contribute to the "buy GreyGhost some hot new rims" foundation?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Can't blame a guy for trying though.
