Aw...shucks. Seriously, I'm glad I'm in a position to help you out. Since I love the cars, it's no extra effort for me to research things and do my best to find them. Anyhoo....Let me know how they turn out. BTW...thanks alot. I put in the order for TWO Loudmouth II SLP exhausts. IT's all your fault!! LOL. *wink*

Okay, so they are in and alive! Took about an hour, really it was just being careful not to scratch anything in the process. GM seems to leave out all info about attaching the gauges and wiring. They only tell you what to do with the 12v and trac buttons. It was easy enough to figure out tho. Im just happy that my car now looks like it should have from the factory.
For anyone that has done this: how did you attach the gauges to the face plate? there are holes and two tabs for lining it up, but nothing to hold the gauges in there. I used 4 zip ties and it held nice and tight. It seems like there should be some snap pins or something in the kit to secure the gauges in there. |

here are pics of pushing the tabs in with a small screw driver to pop out the metal sleeve from the 12v. Once this is out, the plastic tabs on the plastic 12v housing can be pushed to remove the housing/cap

You can see how I had to attach the gauges, with zip ties, to the panel cover. Why GM didn't include pins for this, I don't know. I also zip tied the loose wiring from the 12v and trac button after.
I then unplugged the wiring harness on the passenger side, and plugged in the gauge jumper cable. After this, the panel with gauges was plugged in and snapped back into place. DONT forget to plug in the 12v/trac wire as well, this could be missed very easily (i didnt forget to do it, but the figured it would be an easy oversight. Also, I found it easiest to slide the panel over the shifter before plugging in the wiring since the wires are only as long as they need to be. Lastly is a shot of the gauges all snug in their new home

Fantastic job! So do you need to be tech savvy to do this? It looks great.

You don't need to be tech savvy at all to do this. Really, one just needs to be careful in order to not scratch anything in the process. If you are mechanically inclined, it does help tho. GM seems to leave quite a bit up the imagination when it comes time to put the kit in and the rest of your car back together. There should be lots of info on the forum, here, to explain the whole process - and if not, a few ppl have done this kit now and Im sure would be glad to answer any questions. Also, I'm always willing to do it again if someone in the area has one to install haha.

I had the quad guages installed into my 1LT when I got it.
The first one the dealer had done. One problem you may encounter is that the V6 has much higher oil pressure than the V8's do. Of course Chevy only makes one oil pressure guage, and figures it will be mainly installed in V8 cars. True enough. So what you will get is the needle pinned to the right when it starts up, and at anything more than idle. Not very usefull for the V6, but it looks pretty at night. That's all that matters. |
