I had a great fix come together today, factory touch up did not match.I went to a body shop and had them mix me some paint that did.The paint was a exact match but flat because it didn't have the clear coat.We then had the 3m put on.the 3m Gave it enough gloss effect to tie it in.Now you cant tell the difference.I wasn't sure when this guy told me to do this but it worked great.

For those of you getting repaints please wait at least 30 days for the clear bra. Even if the shop has a booth with heat (bake cycle) at least 10% of the solvents will still be escaping over the next 30 days. I would wait 60 days if the whole front end was shot and being clear bra'ed.

On another thread, TKO performance is coming out with a pre cut clear bra kit that will deal with the areas most effected.

Water based paint has an extremely fast cure time - it's the clear that is the issue. Regardless of this, the water-based paint shouldn't really affect things, it's more of the clear-coat they're using.
MuttGrutt is right. You also need to know as far as the top coat, only the Base (color) is water. The clear is not. The Germans are perfecting a powder coat clear and a ceramic clear. Both are performing well at this point but are only OEM. The local shops wont be seeing any of this due to the procedure.

listen to this i just got my car back from the shop and they covered a one time repaint of my gills which had well over 100 chips on each side after 10000 miles and i only had my car back 2 days and the day i got it back i installed the molded splash guards ( not sure if i like embut they may be growing on me a little bit) and hell they dont work i already have 2 paint chips! and what really upsets me is that i keep my car in a garage and it has hardly ever seen rain and ive never had bird crap on it and they had my car setting outside for a month at their shop because when they took my door pannels of they broke my inner door handle assembly and it wasnt it their parts order catalog and it took a month to get in so my paintjob looks like crap right now it looks like ive seen a few areas where a bird must have craped and they washed it off and theirs like a chemical looking outline in my paint someone please pm me on how to get rid of the bird poop chem look if you know what im talking about. Upside of this story is that they did make my car payment fora month since they broke the part and set me back a month without my car but they gave me a 94 buick lasaber for a loaner car WTF!

The clear bra immediately is a must. 15K and this past week I finally found 2 chips. Mines a daily driver and I'm suprised it took so long to chip.

The reason they broke your inner door handle is because the had to remove the trim panel to pull the mirrors and outer handles off. (clods) When you refinish the gill area you will be forced to blend the base coat (color) into the door for an undetectable match. Both the door and 1/4 will receive a full clearcoat. If you have issues with the quality of the paintwork take it back! Just because it was "free" does not mean it should not be done right.

I just bought a 2012 LS BLACK in August and my front end has like 7 chips and my drivers side door already has 2... absolutely ridiculous!
