what would you think if you were in the 50s and 60s when they came out with a completely new car every year.it would drive you nuts back then.

Loyal customer rebate!

I got a $1,000 rebate in the mail from GM exactly 2 years after I bought a '07 Avalanche. I thought that was pretty dang good for company suffering in this lagging economy. So they do give you some incentive, but you have to remember they are in business for a profit, not to support your favorite charity, "you"!

Wait, you mean we don't get free new model upgrades? Who'd a thunk they were so coldhearted. Man it's a good thing the governments going to make my mortgage payments so I can go buy a 2011!

Dripping in sarcasm

Just love your camaro and always remember that you have the first official reintroduced production year. Besides when the engines start getting bigger and badder just upgrade yours to match and finally when you can't upgrade yours anymore to stay in the running. Buy another one......Do not trade....I will never relinquish control of my 2010...it's mine forever.

This is the way the car world works: You buy a car, it improves the next year, you feel screwed, you get over it.

If they offer rebates and incentives to trade in your car on the next MY....well, #1, it would never equal or come close to the depreciation hit you took, and #2, even then...they'd never make any money.

Allow me to add to this very important point something about the car industry as a whole. The US alone includes over 300 million people. Ponder that number for a moment. That is huge.

The Camaro just exceeded 100k units recently, meaning that only a small fraction of a percent of the US population is going to have them. All of those Mustangs you see on the road are the result of years of sales at numbers not much smaller than that.

Each year, GM makes enough cars for a lot of people, but that number pales in comparison to the sheer size of this country. Add to that international orders. There's simply not enough Camaro for everyone who wants one yet. One solution to this is producing a lot of similar cars over a generation. This is why we refer to the Camaro as a fifth generation Camaro, because this is the fifth major redesign based on an idea of a certain car.

Now imagine going to a restaurant. You order a steak. You like it. You come back a week later and you order the same steak, but they changed the recipe to the marinade. You like it even more. Should you expect some sort of compensation for eating a slightly inferior steak the first time?

You can ask for a rebate to cover your difference. It isn't going to happen. Moreover, no company has ever offered a rebate for trading the same model car for a replacement. If I came to a dealership with a 1984 Corvette and complained that I feel cheated because a 2010 Corvette on the lot has more features and I should get a rebate to cover the difference, the dealer would probably bust out laughing. New cars have new features. This is the evolution of the automotive industry. One company makes something, another company beats it, and the first company must react with minor updates to keep competitive and make sales. People who were sold on a product the way it is are fortunate to have that product at all. Some of us are still waiting.

But technically, the fifth gen Camaro would be the 4th major redesign. Going into 2nd gen was the first, and following that pattern, we get up to 4th for the 2010 model year.

More importantly, just because something gets an upgrade doesn't mean you deserve some sort of compensation for buying the now inferior product. When you bought it, it was top of the line quality.
With the car business, you buy a car knowing full well that the next year is going to get an improvement. Maybe the '09 Mustang buyers felt jilted because '10 got the new look. Maybe the '10 buyers felt jilted because the 11's are getting the better engines. Will they complain? Maybe, but I can't imagine all of them will. That's a simple matter of progression; you buy something to enjoy it, not want the next, better thing.

The only reason I would EVER trade in my Camaro is if they came out with a Hot Pink Metallic 2SS/RS that glows! Otherwise, I'm keeping my beautiful Red Jewel 2SS/RS and not looking for any compensation from anyone. My only complaint is the dealers that charge and wont budge about their so called "market adjustment". What a crock of , Legacy sold the first Synergy Green for $5k over and managed to get another one and are doing the same thing. We have a local Camaro club member who's daughter wants to buy it but they won't even budge for a previous Camaro customer.

It's not fair that I invest 42k on a 2010 2SS (MSRP, RS Package, Sunroof, tax, etc), only to see a more desirable 2SS model come out for 2011, and I cant get back nearly what I invested with the 2010 purchase. Who do I write to at GM with this very valid point to be heard? Thanks.

You can't put a price on being able to enjoy the car for the time you've had it vs waiting until the next model comes out. Not to mention the inevitable price increases. HUD is cool, but it won't be free.

WOW!

I bought what might be the first Synergy in the Houston area and got it under MSRP and another $1000 back from GM to boot.

If they offered everything everyone ever wanted in one model, then there would be no reason for people to buy the one they produce the next year, and the year after that etc.... a loyal customer base is key to longevity and sustainability... If you don't improve your product and add those new innovative features that keep the junkies coming back, you can expect your market share to decline at an increasing rate. Not every company can ride the same product for decades like Coca Cola did

It would be a poor decision on GM's behalf if they didn't add these new features to stay ahead of the competition. They're listening to what WE want, it doesn't get much better than that. How often does a manufacturer bend over backwards to appease the masses? GM is doing a great job giving the people what they want, especially when it comes to the Camaro. Adding the HUD without a premium is a gift from GM to it's customers, yes the may adjust the Camaro price but considering demand they are justified in doing so.

Don't forget the shape GM was in around the time the Camaro was released and the declining cost of technology with time. What was once a scrapped addition due to budget and cost constraints could be the next big accessory.

A big to GM, NOW SOMEONE FIGURE OUT AN EASY RETRO FIT SO I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A ~5K HIT!!!
