SMS Track Layout

Attached is a layout of the track. I've indicated when to brake, when to coast, and when to accellerate!!

There's a rise just before Turn One that you have to be careful at. The last time I was at the track a gentleman hit this a bit too fast, pressed his brakes during the rise, by the time his car came down, he lost control and went straight into the fence. It cost him over $6K to get his car fixed.

So, be careful out there. But, have some fun too.

Enjoy!

Curt

SMS Track Rules

Sandia Motorsports Speedway Track Rules

You must sign a liability waiver prior to driving on the track.
Passengers can ride along; however, they also sign waivers and ride at their own risk.

Helmets are optional but are recommended.

Seatbelts are required.

Absolutely No Alcohol or Drugs!

No more than seven cars (can be less depending upon conditions) are allowed on the track at any time.

Passing is not allowed unless the following situation occurs:
-- On a straight-away, the driver ahead of you pulls his/her vehicle to the left (inside lane) and signals using the left-turn signal to pass. At this point, it is safe to pass.

Even though there is no speed limit, common-sense does apply. Do not speed in excess of your ability to control your vehicle.

Keep in mind, we all signed waivers. Your insurance does not cover any damage to your vehicle or any vehicle on the track. Nor does it cover any damage to track equipment or facilities.
-- If anyone damages another’s vehicle, it is common courtesy to personally pay for the damages.

When you wish to leave the track and are going into the pit, you must signal (right-turn signal) your intention and get off of the track immediately.
-- When going into pit, you turn right and drive around behind the vehicles parked. Do not drive in front of the parked vehicles as they may be preparing to enter the track.

When entering the track, enter closest to Turn One and look for oncoming vehicles prior to entry. Press the gas hard!

Common sense prevails here. We are here to hang out with friends, meet new friends, eat good food, to get to know our cars, improve our driving abilities (i.e., get to know our limitations), and, above all, to have fun.

Enjoy!

Curt

Definately going, still on the fence about puttin it on the track. Think I'll watch for a while And make a decision based on what everyone else does. Either way I'll be their and I will have a good time. No doubt about it. Oh yeah it's not suppose to snow this weekend so we won't need snow tires, our p zeros should hook up just fine. Lol

I'm with you....well, at least I was up until last Saturday morning when I got my first ticket in over 6 years...79 in a 55. Whoops...lol

Now, I have a Andrew Jackson taped to my speedometer so that I can use it to pay for some Authorized Speeding Saturday.

I'm geeked up about it.

Nice diagram Curtis! You're making it easy for us to wanna get out there and burn down some tires. lol.......

Honestly, I'll prolly hit a top speed of oh, about 40 if I'm lucky on the track.

I drive like an old man.

LOL....

Jim Guthrie will be there to give pointers and ride with you if you wish. If you really want to see what your car can do, have Jim drive it for you. It's a ride of your life. Don't worry about his driving, he's a "good driver". "Yeah, 5 min to Whopner"

Map to SMS

Here's the map to the Sandia Motorsports Speedway. We'll meet at the Sheraton Old Town on Rio Grande and caravan out to SMS by 7:30ish (AM). No drinking the night before.

It's a bit of a ride out there. When you get onto the South Access Road, go all the way until it ends, then take a left. You'll see the track night lights in the distance.

By the way, the Albuquerque Jail is nearby SMS. As such, the roads to SMS are crawling with cops. Don't speed.

Enjoy!
