My Mother in Law is a retired DPS officer, Highway Patrol in AZ.
she and a friend of mine who is a cop back home both "coached" me how to talk to a police officer when pulled over. Obviously they both said if you are driving like a moron then you will get a ticket no matter what. But the best advice My Mom in law gave me was to pull over before the cop can even turn his lights on.... Sounds crazy but it works.... at least for me... no guarantees. ![]() But I usually get caught doing 10-20 over and EVERY time I pull off the road, in multiple states, before the cop can turn his lights on, they let me go... Even in GA! The only tickets I've gotten in the last few years have been when I didn't see the cop and he had to pull me over. One time I was able to politely talk my way out of it. The other time the Officer wasn't giving any breaks that day, and it was a known speed trap. FWIW... Again, no guarantees.. but it works for me... They usually get out and ask me a why I pulled over I say, I thought you might have gotten me for speeding. Some say slow it down. Others have taken my information only to come back and say thanks for cooperating. Twice they never got out of the car.. I just sat there for a few minutes until they drove off with a wave... Sounds crazy but it's true. Maybe I'm just really lucky.... Not sure..

gettin pulled for tailgating here in SoCal is a bum move really. anywhere else it would be called tailgating, but here if you drop back 3 car lengths, you will just have 3 cars pull in front of you, and it starts all over again, lol. before you know it you might have dropped back far enough to be back where you started, lol. good job on getting off though.

That sounds like you handled things perfectly. What you probably don't know is that if it was a motor officer you were EXTREMELY fortunate to be driving away with no paperwork. Being an honest and courteous driver goes MILES but sometimes statistics just overrule regardless. It is just the way the game is played.

Local Police Story
I'm about to order a 2011 SS/RS. I live in a small community which is a part of LA. Our major crime issue is gettting your laptop stolen when you leave your car unlocked on the street overnight. I know the one local patrol officer pretty well. At Starbucks today I told him I was ordering an SS/RS and planned to get some kind of exotic aftermarket paint and that my first mod would be the Borla ATAC exhaust. His comment was, "you're building a cop magnet. To save us both time, call me when you get it and 'llI
come over and drool. That way I don't have to pull you over" LOL. He's a very cool guy. |

Why do so many people think 1- gives you warning : wow super cop cool dude 2-he gives you the citation: wow super a-hole douche cop What about self responsability? By the way being an officer last 15 years, you went about it the exact way. Politeness, respect, self responsability. Why would i give a warning to someone who says he didnt do anything wrong, when 99% of the time they are just pissed they got busted. Also people lets not forget, ALL THOSE TIMES YOU DID DO SOMETHING WRONG AND NEVER GOT CAUGHT. |

Cool story. You did the crime and were ready to do the time (good for you for owning-up), and your respectfulness saved you that day.
Glad there was no damage to your wheel too. |
