Mod the Z
Mod it like you stole it!
The notion of collector's item is not realistic, unless you plan on holding on to it for 30-40 years. Is the '80 Z28 or the IROC Z a classic?? No, and they're 30 years old already. You can pick one of them up for nothing. Just because the General puts a Z badge on it, doesn't make it collectible...it may, but who here really is going to hang on to their car for 40 years just to find out...?? Come on now, really think about that. The Gen 5's are being mass produced, and even the Z's will not be as rare as the cars were "back in the day". Granted, if you were to get one, it would be in your best interest to hang on to any and all original parts, as it will almost always make the car easier to resell should the need arise, even a few years down the road. You never know what life deals out, and if your needs change...family, overseas move, unexpected bills, etc., having the original parts on hand for any level of muscle car makes it easier to sell. Besides, what makes a limited production car a classic is us old basta'ds back in the 70's and 80's abusing and destroying them like they were replaceable (which they were..just go to any car lot and get another one), and now there a fewer of them left...cause they were just cars. 3 years from now, you'll be able to pick up a 2SS anywhere for around 15K and hammer it into the ground. Look at the "limited" Shelby GT-500's and Super Snakes, and Saleens even. Crazy expensive, numbered cars, all selling for 70-80K plus when new. Now, 3 years in, you can pick one up for mid 30's. The Z will be no different. I see lots of concerns over the warranty on this site, and I guess that speaks more to the owners that are not able to work on their cars themselves... That's too bad, 'cause buying a muscle car is all about personalizing it and making it your own, not worrying about whether the dealer will replace your tranny if you decide to drop the clutch past 6000 rpm. As much grief as I give GM, ( their maintenance and dealer support is ZERO), the Camaro drive-train is very strong and will put up with a lot more abuse than their cars of the past, so MOD away and stop worrying about what's gonna happen to the car's value in 30-40 years. There won't be any gas left anyway by then!! ROTFLMAO |

As much as I love the car, I truly feel that till they come up with a really suped up model, mods will need to give it a boost. And besides - it's your car and you should do with it what you please.
As far as I know, a lot of people modify the engine’s electronics, upgrade the exhaust system, replace the stock manifolds with tubular headers, install a lighter flywheel, or rebuild the engine with high-performance internal components. I did some homework for you and found you some resources that might help you - http://www.restorationperformance.co...let/Categories and http://www.classicdiscountparts.com/servlet/Categories. Best of luck to you buddy, keep us in the loop

If I got this car a CAI, LT headers, pulley swap and tune would be a must. A factory supercharged car makes sooo much power with those simple mods and all of them could be returned to stock easily. Its just way too easy to make rediculous gains on factory FI cars with those simple mods. Truthfully though if this car gets the LSA like we all think it will get you might as well just get a SS if you plan on getting into the motor because the cost difference will be alot for you just to have a Z28 name.

Camaro, Mustang, Chevette, Focus, whatever the case ... there hasn't been a car in history that hasn't been modded. So it'll come down to invasive, warranty busting mods (heads, forced induction, etc.) to noninvasive easily reversible mods (CAI, shifter, etc.). I have an SLP intake tube, so you know which way I went.
