I have preordered a 2011 white 2LT. It will be my daily driver mostly during the winter. Salt, road chemicals are a factor 4-5 months of the year. I want to replace the gold emblem inserts with black (still debating on gloss or satin black). Due to road salt etc. I have now decided against anything vinyl and should go with paint with clearcoat or epoxy paint. Have now just decided: Want the blackout look between rear lights. I first looked at after market blackout vinyl applications, then looked at blackout panels such as: http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/GTSGT4170.htm#
Decided I am going to get painted my own rear blackout panel because my car will be white and I want the blackout panel to flow/touch the tail light chrome trim (no white painted gaps showing).
This tread has been very helpful to me and thanks to everyone.
This website is killing my new car budget! After reviewing 100s of pages of modifications on this site, and I have not even been informed of my delivery date, I am planning on making paint modifications. Upon delivery, dark window tint week one, week two into the paint booth. Week six, possible first speeding ticket in 35 years I will receive on my vacation drive from Ottawa Ontario to Tampa FL.

no i haven't tried covering the chrome part too or and outline.


the key to it not shrinking and pulling back and showing the gold again is to let it sit for 5-10 mins before you cut the excess off so that the vinyl cools and contracts back before you make the final cut. here's my vid for the rear bowtie

the paint has been holding up pretty good. if i need to i can touch up any rock chips. but im not worried about it.

Black10 your videos have convinced me to do the vinyl route. I bought some precut ones off ebay and they turned out horrible, my error not the seller. And now I just remembered that when i got my vinyl stripes they sent some extra pieces, so i have some just laying around.
