hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster and im absolutely in love with this car.with that said....
as for this key. I will say I have a water proof phone and generally just throw my key (along with electric FOB) and phone in my pocket when im at the beach (ocean meaning salt water), then jump into the water. I actually did this a couple of times this year and the clicker was fine and I havent had any problems with it. While I wouldnt take the chance right out of the gate I'm willing to bet if a FOB thats 8 years old doesnt get fried in salt water this one probably wont either. |

I used to surf off a pretty sketch part of Santa Cruz. Thank god my car had a non-electronic key. I feel you man...it's unsettling to leave your personal belongings on the beach while you're out in the water. Every time I go out, I make sure not to bring any cash. Just the credit card and things that can be replaced. Just never know.

How about this:
Buy an extra key from the dealer, cut properly but don't bother programming it. Take the battery out of this one and take this one with you in the water while you lock the "regular" key in the car. Use the blade from this extra key to unlock your car door, then use the regular key to drive it. One possible issue - your car alarm may go off when you unlock and open with the blade key - mine just did when I tried it. Shouldn't be a huge deal though. **EDIT** I checked this morning and if you lock the car by pushing the lock on the door down the alarm does not go off when you unlock it with the key blade, so the above should work fine with no issues. my ford escape has the keypad on the side so I can just leave my key in it when I go surfing
...if I surfed...Just keep your car unlocked and put a "BEWARE OF DOG" sign on the windshield.
