Couldn't have said it better!! I love seeing modern muscle cars on the road again instead of all the cookie cutter econoboxes.

In my opinion, I would have to say the increase in sales above the Camaro was greatly influenced by the rebates for the Mustang.

Right now I can't decide on a 2010 or 2011 Camaro. I want it now (like everyone else) but for $380 more you get a 2011 with a HUD and the car is considered a year newer.

If GM offered $2,000 off a 2010 Camaro then I would buy it today. I believe GM is going to milk the situation as long as they can so you might not see any rebates on the 2010 Camaros until after the 2011's start hitting the dealer's showrooms.

I just got a voicemail call this morning from my dealer asking about a 2SS I wanted that another dealer just got in. I just can't see paying the same price for a 2010 when the 2011 are already in production.

I even thought about buying a Shelby GT 500 instead.

I agree! I am too young to have been able to drive one of the originals, but whenever I hear one driving down the road with its loud exhaust and rough idle, I turn my head. I love that sound. If I ever have an ample amount of cash to buy an old muscle car and keep it looking and running new, I'll jump right in. I just know that it's much cheaper for me to own a brand new muscle car than a mostly restored top of the line muscle car. I couldn't afford a fully restored model of the kind I want

But what Tran was trying to say is that Chevy - is not offering incentives on the Camaro whereas Mustangs are being sold at deep discounts and 0% financing - hence, Ford/Mustang's numbers were highly inflated for the month of May.

Thankx Tran...
The dealer actually gets the same profit. The manufacturer loses profit by offering incentives.

[QUOTE=ssump29;1963367]I have to correct you on that thought process. The dealer does not and I repeat does not take less revenue or profit. The manufacture does. When incentives are announced its from the Car company not the dealer, so when a dealer honors Fords/GMs incentives the parent companies take the hit and reimburse the dealer for the money they lose.

That's correct --- also, you can bet there were not many of those Mousetangs sold at a loss to the dealer. Rebates and Financing deals come from the "Factory" and the dealer passes them on and cries how he "losing bigtime" on that sacrifice he just made for you!

But in all fairness to Ford, as long as they can pump out the new 2011's now, they are better off to get the 2010's cleared out -- the sooner the better. But Tran's background does help explain the big jump.

On more point --- Camaro never did outsell Mustang over the years. We always considered Camaro to be a "step up" and more of an enthusiast's car than a Mustang. It's nice to outsell Mustang but GM should NEVER chase "sales units" just to make the numbers. We've got more class (& smarts) than that nowdays.

Now we're not making excuses (full credit given to Ford for such a hot seller last month), but there is a backstory to these numbers. There was a factor which contributed positively to the Mustang's strong sales numbers - Ford's incentives to clear out 2010 Mustangs.

Of the Mustangs sold in May 2010, 43% were 2010 models which were being cleared out with incentives of $2,500 off with 0% to 5.9% financing. Also, the 2011 Mustang has $1,500 on the hood for returning lessees, plus financing as low as zero percent for 36 months.

No, this isn't about sour grapes, but beyond comparing horsepower and performance between the Camaro and the Mustang, Camaro and Mustang fans like to compare sales figures, and this bit of info helps us more accurately interpret the latest sales figures.
Whatever makes you feel better.

Oh yeah, those 11 months of higher sales don't make up for 7 years of NO sales.

I've noticed that Ford has a Mustang Commercial playing constantly now. It's kinda irritating actually. Why doesn't Chevy make a commercial for the camaro?

I mean, that must help with sales along with the other incentives. I've never seen a mustang camaro before, until this one.

Sorry, but this thread is fail.

Camaro owners could write off the sales tax for the past year.

2011 Mustangs are poised to crush 2011 Camaros in sales with the new 5.0 as well.
