Wait a minute. 6000 sold orders and 84% are SS's that is 5040 total SS's ordered so far. At a 50/50 production rate and guessing 900 total cars per day they would have all 5040 produced in 11.2 days. We have waited this long, 11.2 days doesn't sound that bad. Am I missing something? Constraints maybe? Another guess, all 5040 have been ordered by those of us on this forum, I can't imagine GM letting us down.

Maybe they can't get 5,000 sets of leather seats or V8 engines supplied in time.

Time to place that order for an LS model. You could be one of the first to have a Camaro to drive around while others are waiting for their SS to be built.

I have serious issues with assuming that GM didn't know all of this way ahead of time. They had to have known the initial orders were going to be from a enthusiast core group, and that the majority would be SS's.

Now, if they had been advertising the car non-stop for months, and this was happening, I would be more concerned. But I have a great deal of confidence that they expected the numbers to be like this. Maybe not 84%, but I would bet they had considered more than a 50/50 split. And due to the small amount of cars ordered in a 2 week period (in relation to a mass marketing campaign), I can't see there being a problem filling orders, especially with production not starting for 4 months.

Extremely low: GM's target was 8000 - 8500 units a month.
The number SHOULD be at least 56000

This is speculation until proven differently.

Either way, I'm number one at my dealer!!

I'm confused...I can get my 2SS still or I can't?

Also...I wasn't expecting delivery before May or Jun anyway....sounds like it could have been March?

Dumb this statement down for me please...we can or can't get the SS this year (2009)?

And if we can, when (in 2009)?

Legend, though no one knows for sure, you almost certainly will get your car before summer '09. If you are high on your dealer's list then I can possibly see you getting your SS as early as March.

I would like to think that a company as big as GM would be ready and waiting for our buyer response to their early preorder. Hopefully the preordering was done so far in advance in order to accomodate the reflected 5040 SS buyers.

It sounds to me like they are being very conservative with their production numbers. They don't want to ramp up to produce 80-100k cars per year and struggle to sell them all. It will take time to get all these pre-orders out but I think the first 20,000 will likely be built by mid-summer time, and if they only build 25% v8's then the 5000 SS orders would easily be delivered by that time. The v6 mix will come up once they start advertising the car, and especially when people can see the car for themselves at the dealership. Be patient, I know I am trying to be.

Unless there is actually proof this came from GM, I'm gona call dealer. I can't see GM filling out fleet orders before sold orders, so relax, calm down and keep the faith.

Horray for 6k orders though!

For the initial production run for preorders, I agree that GM should do something about producing more SS models to meet the loyal enthusiasts demands. However, the V6 will be the most produced model. Remember, there is the CAFE issue. The Camaro won't be able to survive in the future if 80% are SS models.
