Another noob question, I have the automatic, so do I have a different gear ratio in my differential than what's in the manual transmission vehicles?
Also, does swapping out the gears do anything to the speedometer read-out, or will that remain correctly calibrated? |

4.10s > 3.73's for a ls3/m6. hands down. this isn't like any other 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gen f-bodies guys and gals. we have a huge 28.5" rear tire. Our 4.10's is like a ~3.73/3.90 on a 1st-4th gen.

I am also looking for a solid comparison of 1/4 mile et and mph? What gear and rpm are you guys crossing the traps at? And also is first gear nearly unusable now on the street? What about long road trips? Sorry for all the questions. Maybe we need a sticky with all the pros and cons?

X-treme Horespower over in North Richand Hills does them as well. I think his quote was $1,350 and he uses Richmond 4.10 gears. Personally...I would do the 4.10 with an M6. I think the two overdrives will handle it just fine. Another thing everyone should consider if they are going to get gears is to have the differential bushings changed out while you're there. Most of the labor costs is already done when you take out the rear end so it shouldn't cost much more in labor to have it done.

This is ABSOLUTLEY a professional install ONLY!! It just sucks how everything about this car seems so much more money than my First Gens. In the First Gen I can get a brand new set of gears for about $200 and then have them installed for about $225. Compare that to the $1,400 install on the 2010 Camaro.

I don't know why it has to be so much for this; the gears are about $600 from what I can see. Why would there be $800 of labor??

I can't tell you how many guys have gotten gears just to have them removed later because they're couldn't handle the increased noise/gear wine. Gears need to be professionally installed by someone that really knows what they are doing. |
