This is gut wrenching as I have two sons ages 17 and 21. I can't even image the devastation on the families. My heart goes out to them.

I think that before getting a drivers licence, everybody with a learners permit should spend a week working in an ER... They would get the message loud and clear!!!

mhood, if u live life like that, God help ya. seat belts are a proven life saver. If you are not strapped in, you are at the mercy of G-forces that will slam u against anything and there's nothing u can do about it. This sorta reminds me of an atheist i talked to one time, and it's that same line of thinking. Lord knows when it's your time to go, but u can speed it up by being stupid.

I may be wrong, but I believe the slowdown feature can only be employed if the car is reported stolen by the owner. Just like the remote lock out feature, you need the PIN # in order to activate it.

So are motorcycle helmets yet in Texas you aren't required to wear one. Accidents happen. Do you really think those unfortunate kids set out to hit a tree and kill themselves? Do you really think you can say they wouldn't have died if they were wearing their seat belts?

I always make sure everyone in my car is wearing their seat belts before I put it in gear. I also enjoy riding my Harley without a helmet...I like the feeling of the wind in what's left of my hair. When I was 17 and got my Roadrunner, it didn't even have seat belts...I never wore them. The odds are that I should have died driving my car but I didn't...just an outlaw I guess.

That is really unfortunate. I'm an ex-athlete, and whenever someone wasn't wearing their seat beat we would just say, "Derrick Thomas."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derrick_Thomas

I am a teacher, and I also get extremely cautious when the youngsters on here say that they have brand new Camaros (V6 or V8). Folks, be careful, no matter your age.

This is just a sad story.
I mean, really people, is it that hard to take 3 seconds before even turning your car on to just pull a seat belt into position? It's not!
Does it make the ride that much cooler? No!

I don't understand why people can't put their seat belts on.

This is exactly why my entirely trustworthy good kid 19 year old is in a Toyota Yaris with a special Onyx package and not a high powered sports car. He can buy that himself after college. At 18 I wasn't responsible enough to drive a skateboard.

Edited to add, My wife is an ER Nurse Manager. If you are not wearing a seatbelt you are dead in most of the cases. If you are not wearing a helmet on a motor bike, you are dead most of the time. She hates Friday and Saturday shifts cause some kid in a car to big for themselves gets stupid.

Famous last words, I am the most responsible 17 year old ever. Thats why a local burger joint changed the name of his restaurant to his now deceased 17 year old daughter who was also smart and responsible but did not wear the seatbelt and drove without lights.
