Yes. There's excessive start from stop, and excessive display of horsepower (burnout/peelout) Both are lame.

I got what was called "unsafe start" as a ticket once. No tire spin involved, just fast acceleration.

I did get out of it, cop didnt bother to show up at court.

I use to live in the Fort Lauderdale area and around 1991, I was at a light stopped and when the light turned green I hit the gas I think I did a burn out and then I nailed it to 60 and then the lights and siren hit!! I said damn!! The cop gave me a ticket for improper start from a stop! I use to hang out in that in that area every weekend so I waited for the court summons and I didnt see that cop anymore so I went to the trial and the cop never showed and the judge threw it out! I think the ticket would have been $100.00 Im in Arizona now and if you are caught street racing
its a felony and they tow your car!

My question is, has anybody gotten a ticket for getting to the speed limit very quickly? ( as in 0-60 in 5 sec.)
And I don't mean wreckless driving and interfering with other vehicles.
And is there a law against it? ( 0-60 in 5 sec.)
Rapid Acceleration and I had a summons to court for it. It can also be associated with racing or engaging in a speed contest with another vehicle.

We used to have one they hit us with in New York state called "Uncontrolled/Uncontrollable Acceleration" which basically meant you broke the tires loose. Chirping the tires on a 1-2 never got this, but doing a burnout - major or minor was like TicketMaster...

Compared to many people even with my baby LLT engine, I can still reach the speed limit faster than almost everyone without even trying. What's worse is I stop at the speed limit and cruise they they still sit there accelerating past it. I never did get why slow people seem to be more prone to speeding with their not-so-performance based cars yet most guys in the better performing cars seem to be much more tamer around here. I would honestly say to fight every ticket you get if you get one. Especially something highly subjective to being almost purely opinionated will be very difficult to hold up in court. You're going to have a much higher chance getting this ticket the more crappy cars are around you seeing as their best acceleration is almost stalling for you.

As others have pointed out, yup- you can get nailed for it, it's completely subjective (short of doing burn-outs), and it usually has degrees of seriousness and can fall under multiple citation categories.

I think he misunderstood....I believe it would be for a charge of exhibition of speed in conjunction with reckless or street racing

He clearly misunderstood that law...it would be in addition to a charge of reckless or street racing. No officer is going to get kicks dealing with the paperwork of a impound for a ridiculous moving violation.

Whether you agree with it or not, the hiring process for that job is grueling and stressful. The purpose is to eliminate the bad apples from the start, and hiring honest, truthful individuals. The % of bad apples is FAR less than 50%. What YOU believe took place and what HE believes took place may be completely different. That alone does not make an officer a liar. You just have a different perspective of what may be safe operation of a motor vehicle....Now I know there are bad cops who have lied....but I just have a hard time seeing a cop going to court and lying about a stupid civil ticket. Something that can not only cause him to lose his job, but land him in jail as he lies under oath. Most patrol vehicles are equipped with video recording devices and someone is ALWAYS watching...

What you think is the truth and what actually happened can often be different as well. That doesn't make you or him a liar.....no disrespect intended. But you are right....the bad stories stick with us

Doesn't that seem excessive? I mean seizing the car? What, is squealing the tires like dealing or homicide??

Darn this law & order stuff...

also worth while keeping in mind, that while you can get pulled over for it in almost any degree...

you'd have to be daft not to be able to get out of it if in fact you were just accelerating safetly to the speed limit.

obviously breaking the tires loose, or chirping could be considered an unsafe act (which is why i dont bother doing it most of the time); but acceleration to the posted speed limit can be interpreted as a form of expression and as long as it's done in a safe and orderly manner; they can not stop you from punching it on a freeway on ramp.

not a lawyer, but i've fought and won 11/12 tickets in the first 2 years of my driving life (and believe me, #12 was the last one; over 4 years now... knock on wood)
