We've had several questions about where our intake picks up air. This is the duct located behind the grill on the driver's side. You can feel it through th grill once you know where to look. The air goes in the top of the duct and follows the duct right around the radiator and directly into our air box. This is the same air duct that supplies sufficient cool air to a S/C V8 Camaro so you know it's seeing plenty of air for the V6 engine! Also, air coming from 2' off the pavement is cooler than air scooped right off of the hot pavement!

We've also had several questions about the dry filter. It is the same one we use on the V8 intakes. It has an off-white appearance whereas the oil filter is the traditional maroon color. Some prefer the dry filter because it's a little easier to maintain and there is no chance of fouling the MAF sensor with oil since it doesn't use any. FYI, the oil filter will not cause any problems unless it is oiled excessively during servicing.
The oil filter typically flows better which means it will make slightly more power than the dry filter. However, we use an oversize filter which makes this difference very minimal. While the oil filter is our standard filter, this picture shows the dry filter available with our CAI system.

My Roto-Fab Installation

So the other day when I went home for lunch and found that my order was delivered!

I went right to work on the installation. I don't have all my tools but with a little help from my friends, I got it all installed in under an hour.

I took some video and pictures. The video was from my phone so may not be very good.
Packaging:

The heat shield creates a large breathing space for the big mouth air filter.
Looking straight down from the top, you can see down to the concrete through gaps in the fender and behind the washer bottle.

I've got video on Facebook but can't figure out how to post it. If anyone can help, thanks.

Comments: Note: I'm not a mechanic but have worked on a few cars in my day.
The installation was just short of a breeze. The heat of the day had me frustrated. So the light Breeze did help.

One of holes on the heat shield was a little tight, but finally went in. The opening for the MAF seemed a bit rough and I was actually afraid of pushing too hard, and damaging the O-ring but that worked out too.
The PCV tube seemed about 1/4" short for my liking but no big deal. I got some extra stickers which was nice, but I got SS stickers vs the RS stickers. Everything else went in perfectly.

Once installed, I started the engine to make sure there were no rattles. Right off the bat, I noticed the difference in sound--Very Impressive. On my way back to the office I noticed the sound from the cabin was...Beefyer? Hard to describe, but definitely better. As for performance, It's hard to say officially, but the response seems less labored and the engine seems to be more responsive.

I was at the track in Lapeer MI last November and again yesterday.
I don't recall the air temp from November but yesterday it was around 80-85and humid.
My best times for both dates:
---- Date --- 60 ft -- 594 ft - 1/8 ET - 1/8 MPH - 1/4 ET - 1/4 MPH
11/07/2009 - 2.175 - 9.069 -- 9.644 - - 78.13 - - 14.918 -- 82.36 - Cooler Pre-Roto-Fab
08/14/2010 - 2.205 - 9.073 -- 9.678 - - 74.31 - - 14.843 -- 94.09 - Hot and Muggy Post-Roto-Fab

My overall experience--Excellent
From my initial correspondence and information gathering to ordering, delivery, instructions, installation and performance. I'm very Satisfied.

Thanks Mike and the Roto-Fab team.

Got my Roto Fab intake last week.
Ordering- very polite lady took my order and the next day got my invoice with tracking number.
Recieved package and packaging was very good.
Instructions were detailed with illustrations and very easy to understand. I purchased standard black but had it painted the next day, I work at a body shop and one of the guys said they would paint it for me.
Got out Saturday afternoon and started installing, it took about an hour, I live in north Dallas and it has been hotter than hell so I took some time out for water.
Installation was very easy and went well for me.
Started the car and the results were what I was looking for. I can tell a little deeper exhaust note, I have the Flowmaster axel back system, as far as power I believe it does give a little more punch.
All in all, the results are very posittve and I am very happy with it. Roto Fab did a great job on this one. When and if we ever get some cold air down here in Texas, I am hoping for even better performance.

We are glad to hear your intitial thoughts are good ones! However, I'm not a bit jealous about wrenching on a car in Texas on a hot August afternoon! Thanks for choosing our product! BTW, could you post a pic of your painted air box installed?

Sweet! Being a new product, we don't have many pictures to share. We appreciate you taking the time to post your pictures. BTW, the paint work on the air box and engine cover looks great!

I received my Roto-fab Yellow CAI this week and it arrived in perfect condition. I did have some trouble getting the box into the trunk, but it at least fit there as it was not going into the car easier.

I spoke to Mike when I ordered and the whole process took less than 5 minutes. After I get my car serviced this weekend for the first time, yea I finally hit 1,500 miles I will install my new CAI. I will post some pics after I am done this weekend. Thanks Roto-fab for a great product.

Got mine yesterday installed last night. Packaging was good (UPS not so good), took about an hour to install and then took her out for a run. Can definitely hear the air being sucked in and a little whistle from it. Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back was installed today so it has an even deeper tone to it. I would recommend this CAI to anyone. Nice job Roto-Fab!

I was looking into this CAI on their site and would like to know what the difference is between the oiled and oil-less air filters. Ive used K&N in the past so I have always needed to oil after cleaning. Is the difference just that the oil-less are better filters, that dont require oil to catch all the grit/dust in the air? How about the cleaning process? What is difference between the two?
