That really sucks bigtime on the G8 GXP. IIRC, the last GTO with the 4 speed auto had the tax, but not the manual. I hope neither Camaro gets the tax. The Camaro has one more gear in the automatic over the Challenger not to mention it weighs 200 - 300 pounds less. Hopefully the lesser weight will keep the 6sp manuals out of the tax too.

I realize I am not buying this car for good gas mileage, but I don't need 2,000 George Washingtons leaving my wallet reminding me so. :( :(

Based on what I've read and heard, the manual LS3 and automatic L99 both will get an overall average of 23 mpg. This is enough to escape the gas guzzler tax for both models.

Damned right -- except you are way to lenient.

For example the Silverado has the tax but they do not show it because they sell enough fuel efficient cars to absorb the price. CAFE standards is what I am talking about.
The gas guzzler tax does not apply to trucks, and I think they have to show that the tax is being applied. That is the point to discourage the consumer from buying that car.

Off topic, but!! If you are getting an SS you can't call it her or give it a girl name. Scott (Fbodfather) said some time ago that the SS is too mean and too much a beast to be called her. Scott just my come looking for you. Or send some black SUVs.

I admit I have never researched or even discussed the topic, just putting down my thoughts. I thought gas guzzler tax went on all heavy, thirsty vehicles including SUVs and pickups. That would make more sense. Tax the rigs that get 14-17 MPG, not cars that get 23. WTF is up with that? Isn't that part of the reason car companies are making so many "crossover" vehicles. They serve the same purpose as a SUV and get better mileage. Do they get hit?

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!

What is wrong with you guys?????
All pricing has been released for the vehicle itself.
Some accessory pricing has not been released.

I have as well as thousands of others, received a FINAL out the door price based upon those initail numbers.

ONCE AGAIN - IF YOU HAVE NOT< SHAME ON YOU!!!

You must not have ordered one yet or you would already know this.

For any doubters....the 2008 vehicles subject to the gas guzzler tax are listed here http://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/guzzler/index.htm in a PDF file. It clearly shows the Challenger SRT8 which has EPA ratings of 13mpg city and 18mpg highway as having a "Combined MPG" of 19.1....certainly not the average of 13 & 18, but rather it is "the rounded combined mpg value adjusted using the test procedure credit equation." I don't know WTF that means, but the SS Camaro's Combined MPG would have to be somewhere above the 22.5mpg tax threshold....therefore the NO TAXers have it!!!....not that I didn't believe you guys right from the start

Basically, it is an equation that accounts for the fact that bigger cars are less efficient, among other things. I think.

I have a signed sales order by the dealer. He asked what would happen if the MSRP went up. I stated it depended on how much. He made my deposit non-refundable, so I take it the order he wrote up is unchangeable.
