Not interested. Besides the fact that it looks like an out-of-water catfish, 2 vs 4 seats matters to me. It's a nice car (not my tastes, but nice), but I like the current design better. I don't plan on track or street racing anymore (no time and I've had enough tickets) so performance isn't as high on my totem pole as it used to be, but style is. If I were shopping for a 2 seater I'd wait on the Soltice coupe... now's that's a great looking car and will be relatively affordable. 27mpg and a respectable 5.5 0-60 time which I'm sure should improve with a hardtop. Along with some simple mods I don't see it being impossible to break into the high 4's. And if I got the performance itch I'd have an LS series crate engine dropped in. Have you guys seen what Mallet has done with an LS7 in there? YIKES!

I'm not sure if I like the exterior. However, the interior looks very good. I like the gauge cluster and information center. I'm also digging the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The Nav and Musicbox are pretty sweet too.

It is probably a better competitor vs. the Camaro than the Mustang is (given the weight and Hp). For me, The Camaro is still better.
Actualy the paddles are on the steering column not the steering wheel, so that you can shift while cornering/ while the wheel isnt centered. If you dont have that you have to take your hands off the paddles when turning the wheel.

The 350Z's are certainly nice cars, and don't get me wrong; they're incredibly quick. But the weight difference in nothing to scoff at. The base car weighs in at 3100 and change, while a convertible with all the bells and whistles weighs in at 3600 and change. The 2SS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3800.

My buddy has a 2005 350Z coupe with the highest trim package (touring?) and his major complaint is weight. I can't imagine how much crap he's going to give me for how heavy my Camaro is.

I'm not sure if GM saw the 350Z as the main competition, but they certainly considered it when building/testing the Camaro. There was a Car and Driver article with a pre-pro Camaro and the tester said it left the competition in the dust (Mustangs, G35/Z, Challengers etc.) in the dust. It should be fun though.

Setting performance aside for a moment, I think the 370Z is ugly. I personally am a fan of the 350, but at certain angles it looks REALLY hatchbacky (I love that inventing words when discussing cars is perfectly acceptable). The 370 at a 1/4 view looks exponentially more hatchbacky. The new grill on the 370 does look much better than its' predecessor.

I think the interior of the Camaro is pretty gadgety looking, but not TOO over the top. But the interior of the Z is way too busy for my tastes (the navigation makes it worse). I am so glad that the Camaro does not come with a navigation system, as drivers will be doing what they're supposed to be doing-DRIVING, and not f*cking with a screen.

With all that being said, the 370Z is a worthy opponent from the East, and the only battles that are worth winning are the ones that were fought hard. But I'm still a soldier in the General's Army and the General's Army will prove victorious.

... and i thought the 350z's were ugly. however, there's still something about the 350z that i like. maybe it's because it's small, got 2 doors, and only 2 seats. in any case, the Camaro is much better looking imo and if i'm going to be in debt for a car... the Camaro wins.

I've got to agree with you there. Interiors like that remind me of an old industrial machine where you still in a chair and have to pull cords and levers, throw switches and turn dials to operate it, and in the background all you hear are whistles and gears and all manner of cacophony.

Ignoring the power boost I'd definitely choose the current model over the incoming one.

8.04 is the Supra 6-speed record.

8.04 in a car with three pedals and a stick. What's that about running 12s?

And that Supra has how much in common with a stock Supra?? Yeah, that's what I thought, not much, I don't see the relevance.

As a current Z owner, it comes down to performance/price. For the same price, even less, you can have the 2SS v8 over a v6 370z. Even with the weight, the potential of bumping up the power of a v8, vs a v6 is still better. Having the additional 2 seats in the rear was another deciding factor.

If I had to go with a 2-seater, the Solstice Coupe as suggested earlier or even the Vette would be a good alternative.

I think what he meant is that it takes some serious mods to make a supra or a 350z much faster than a 12 second car. Any car can be made as fast as you want depending on how many things you are willing to change and how many sacrifices you make.
