No issues there. The engine factory where the LS3 is built has been down for quite a while. There is no shortage of LS3's. With the Corvette plant down until Feb. 23rd there is plenty of time to build. It all comes down to marketing. GM invested $$$ in market research that told them 2/3 of buyers wanted a V6 and was more concerned with image and looks than performance. It's like they asked my wife and not me

Let's say you don't get your car until September or October. Excited just to get it you go ahead with it, store it until April of 2009 or whatever. Then 6 months later you find out they've added HUD, ABL, 3.73 gears, and offering 0% financing and $1000 cash back on 2011 models.

That's the type of reality you have to be willing to accept to have something brand new first model year. I mean someone has to buy the first model year cars, but they nearly always get the short end of the stick in the long run. That's just how it is.
That is an EXCELLENT point. Do you even take a July delivery knowing full well in 3 or 4 months they'll be discounting the 2010's to move them to make room for the 2011's ? I have yet to see a car other than a limited run Vette that there weren't MY end discounts on.

As of right now with all the information we've connected the dots on.

I don't see any proof, based on any specific numbers, that all preorders won't be delivered by Oct 09. Nor can I see definitive proof that the majority of the SS's will be delivered late in the year. It all depends on your specific dealers allocation. You need to check with them first.

Grain of salt indeed.

But does that contract stipulate you'll get their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, nth Camaro SS delivered? If not then it doesn't mean squat, other than yes you'll get it for MSRP. You may have to wait until they sell all the other SSs they get for MSRP plus markup, then they'll sell you yours. Would that be ethical? Not in my eyes. Contractually legal? Absolutely.
Hmm, I guess they could lose a customer for life and more when I tell people of their shady practices. I'd just get an '11 Camaro somewhere else the following year.

This is all hypothetical talk though and I stand by the dealer I talked with.

Granted, but even they won't know squat until another month from now when they find out exactly what they're getting allotted (or not) for their first March shipment. Do they find out weekly from then on or monthly?

I'm a little surprised none of you guys had anticipated that this would happen. It was happening back in 1994 when I bought my first new Z28. The dealers get allocations for a certain number of cars but they only fill whatever orders they want to. If you ordered a paint color which they had production problems with, then they would put white cars on "constraint" and someone with another color would get built (possibly taking up your "allocated" car from your dealer). I had to wait 9 months for my 1994 Z28 to get built, and they (cleverly) decided to build it the month before they switched over to 1995's. I said they must make it a 1995 and give me "price protection" and they did. So I received my car in September and drove it for 2 months and had to put it away for the winter... when I could have had it for 6-7 more months if they had not put it on "constraint".
Gm produced the best combinations to order and yet failed to mention in this document that SS was not a good combo to order. This is poor customer relations, if you could only fill so many orders, then when that was filled it should have been pulled pulled from availability. This is ridiculous, and sad!

Didn't think it through. Not used to a model year being released so early...

Dealer consensus in monthly. Usually this time each month.

I agree with you. And, I was really making the same point. No one knows what the allocation will be. So before we all jump off the same cliff, lets wait and see. My guess is most of us are among the first pre orders with their respective dealers. So, that means that you should get your car relatively early. Now, The worst that might happen, is your dealership won't get a V8 allocated to them. I believe Greg called it a constraint. And yes then on either a week by week or month by month basis you will wait and see if the constraint on V8's has changed. But I didn't catch whether or not the constraints/allocation are updated weekly or monthly....

That's my understanding anyway.

Great vid, thanks for putting it together!

So, if GM is the one who determines how many of which trim a dealer gets, does that go down to the color/option choices as well? And we're the deposits we put down just super-advanced downpayments?

Constraints are weekly. Consensus occurs monthly so dealers can plan their allocation for weekly ordering.

Theoretically, they guaranteed our spots in line when our trim level becomes available.
