My question is similar to jdpepper's in regards to the T04ZR choice...
Assuming 10 psi of boost as stated and a redline of 6000 RPM, the pressure ratio is approaching 2.0 consdiering plumbing losses and apporaching 70 lb/min of air flow. If you look at the compressor map attached for the turbo chosen, that point doesn't fall where I'd expect it to on the map. |

I wouldnt change the turbo size for anything. I love it, I think its a perfect stock motor turbo. If you want to go bigger, we will have an option. We wanted a turbo that will spool crazy fast and make about as much as a stock motor will hold. There were long thought processes into choosing this turbo.
We will have the bigger turbo option available really soon. You can always make more power with a bigger turbo, but you will always be faster with a properly sized turbo on the street.

I understand what you're saying, but I guess my confusion is with the map.
I believe you are getting what you are saying, but looking at the map, it seems difficult or almost impossible for it to flow enough air at that boost level. |

This turbo will make 550 whp on the L99s and 600whp on the LS3s and thats all we were looking for out of our base kit. Sure you can put a bigger turbo on and make bigger numbers, but you are sacrificing more money and more lag with that.
Come take a ride in one of our cars and it will change your mind for sure... Last edited by JTinFL; 09-27-2009 at 07:18 AM. |

I went to Garrett turbo and pulled the map off for the T04ZR...
For "back housing" do you mean the turbo side or the compressor side? I hope you don't mean the exhaust side...The exhaust side doesn't get factored into a compressor's performance, but just affects how quickly it can spool. if you mean the compressor side, the Garrett site uses a 0.70 A/R for their T04ZR turbo. I think if they changed that parameter, they'd call it something besides T04ZR, but maybe not... |

just by looking at the dyno graph it looks like its out of steam on the top end. it falls off hard in the upper rpms. but for that matter the 71mm on the fastlane car does also. i too think this turbo is too small but i will withhold judgement until i see some ls3 numbers. that motor should be a little more telling. ill keep my subscription

I'm not trying to eye poke. I trust UP and their results entirely. This kit looks awesome. This will probably be the system I go with. I wouldn't want it to make any more power than it does without beefing up the stock engine, too, so I see what he is trying to explain about going larger.
Here's my guess (if my map represents what they used)....the turbo has plenty of air flow at the PR to hit 10 psi at 4000 RPM where it is very efficient, but should gradually drop to 7-8 psi by 6000 RPM, where it is less efficient and doesn't have the air flow. |

Well, the car holds boost all the way to redline up top just fine. The kit makes over 200 more whp and 240 more wtq just by bolting it on with hardly any other mods. This is exactly what we wanted. We will be pushing this turbo some more in the future but we are just playing around with it now.
We will have another larger turbo option but that will sacrifice the street setup that we were aiming for on the stock motor 2010 Camaros. I have personally made 620 on pump gas and 680 on Q16 with this exact turbo so I know what it is capable of. The LS3s are going to be a lot of fun. |

WOW! That's some KILLER power, especially for the money! 600 is the sweet spot for a street car on street tires, especially with that amount of torque! If you put much more than that on them, it's going to take some effort to hook it up, even on Nitto's or BFG drag radials! I can't wait to see some street driving video's! |
