From the web

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for four or more passengers. Sold at an affordable price, muscle cars are intended for mainly street use and occasional drag racing.[3][4][5][6] They are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing. Developed simultaneously in their own markets, muscle cars also emerged from manufacturers in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere.

According to Muscle Cars, a book written by Peter Henshaw, a "muscle car" is "exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a large-displacement engine in it. The Muscle Car is Charles Atlas kicking sand in the face of the 98 horsepower weakling."[7] Henshaw further asserts that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity", or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars.[7]
However, opinions vary as to whether high-performance full-size cars, compacts, pony car and muscle cars.[8]
Did you just quote wikipedia lol.
According to this I still wouldn't drive a v8 challenger, and thats relative truth for me

I think the V6 is kind of in that gray area by true definition. It doesn't have either of the high performance engine offerings, and aside from style and configuration, that was the original defining feature of a muscle car besides being an American sedan and having rear-wheel drive. The first ones were regular sedans that were outfitted with high performance engines.

I don't become offended whether it's called a muscle car or not, and I wouldn't correct someone in conversation unless that was the specific topic and in good humor. Today's V6 does outperform some of those older engines, but the bar has been raised and it's still the comparatively low performance version in the car's lineup.

Yep, I own a V6. Nope, I don't believe there's some hierarchy of lesser/better with regards to V6/V8. It's just a car.

Seriously though, just enjoy your Camaro. Whatever label you put on it changes nothing.
A 6th gen v6? We don't know yet. I can tell you a 5th gen v6 couldn't though... The 396 v8 option in the chevelle ss put out over 325hp and more importantly more torque than a current six banger.

Yeah, there have been no muscle cars made since the early 1970s. Most of the guys my age never considered the Camaro, Mustang or Challenger a muscle car anyway, but why start another argument? The Camaro is classified as a sports coupe or sports convertible. If you want to call it modern muscle, go ahead.

The camaro, mustang, challenger and firebird were all pony cars until the v8 options were added. The chevelle ss, grand torino, GTO and charger were the muscle cars. Sports cars were 2 seaters only originally. The corvette was marketed as "america's sports car" for so long.
