Yes, he installed the carbon fiber ring on second gear, thanks to your information on this thread I also got the syncro's changed... The new clutch kit... new slave cylinder/throwout bearing, etc...

The transmission is @ 90-95% perfect... there are those times when it's cold, and it feels notchy...doesn't grind, just feels like it's just not perfect.. still better than hearing that grind

I was thinking that maybe getting some Royal Purple will get me to that 100%... What do you think ?
I think the trans fluid is personal preference but Amsoil, Royal Purple and Redlines are what most people use. I'm always partial to GM manual trans fluid #88861800.

I suggest a Syncromesh fluid. Whether that be Royal Purple Syncromesh, Amsoil syncromesh, or Redline's syncromesh.

Syncromesh is a Manual Transmission fluid for manual transmissions spec'd for ATF. Like our TR6060's.

Key word being "syncro"mesh.

I went with Amsoil Torque Drive ATF...Shifts alot smoother and was well worth the money...not thinking it will get rid of my 3rd gear grind but it does help and shifts alot better. nice write up on here Thanks for the info.

Don't put off repairing the transmission until the inevitable happens. My TR-6060 suffered a catastrophic failure. Locked up completely, broke the DS coupliing at the output shaft. The flopping DS knocked holes into both cats, and broke shifter linkage and actuator, as well as beat the heat shrould and undercarriage up pretty bad. The trans locked at @35mph in 3rd during 5:00pm evening traffic. I engaged the clutch asap, 1-2 sec., but with rear wheels turning, driveshaft kept turning beating banging, etc. Dam lucky there wasn't a wreck because of the Tranny failure. Be forewarned. This is a major safety hazard.

Right rear half shaft failed at 3900, 3000 later and the transmission failed. Two major failures in less than 7000 miles. Never raced, never abused. The half shaft failured occurred during 3000 rpm launch with LC turned on. The engineers blamed the failure on a 'rogue' half shaft. I noticed a very slight vibration in the shifter after the half shaft failed. The shifter started shaking a little and boom, sounded like I ran over an IED. Have no idea how this is going to shake out, I'm just giving everyone a heads up. Had my wheels locked up, it would've been bad. There were cars all around me when the transmisson broke. The potential for your transmission to lock up is a very real possiblity.

Fast34me... I have taken mine in twice to the dealer for the clutch/1-2 shift issue. Each time I was told "Tech unable to recreate condition reported by owner/driver and told it was probably driver error."

NO IT ISN'T! YOU LISTENING CHEVROLET?

I have driven stick for 40 years! My clutch smells like it is burning anytime I put the slightest load on it. When I am going down the road I can smell burning rubber and it isn't tires. I have documented it with Chevrolet Service and the Service Manager. I have copied these posts and handed them to the Service Manager with the links for him to research which he has done.

Bottom line: "When Chevrolet comes out with a Service Bulletin or Safety Recall then we can and will act on it."

Is this acceptable? NO. Is it going to change how Chevrolet deals with it? NO. The Camaro saved Chevrolet from the brink of collapse and hopefully the celebrating won't cause them to be numb to a clear and present danger of their everyday drivers.

You notice they changed the Tremec trans out for the ZL1 model. Perhaps that is what should replace the defective units. A simple swap could SAVE them millions in the long run if there are any related accidents or safety recalls. Just my humble opinion for what it is worth.

The car is still stellar despite this issue.

I've read that it is a Tremec 6060 MG9 such as seen here:

http://knudtsenchevyblog.com/tremec-tr-6060-mg9/

I guess we won't really know until the roll off the assembly line.

Count me in. 1st to 2nd shifts are problematic with my Camaro also. I have spoken to GM cust satisfaction people on this and they have asked me if I have taken it to the dealer. Unfotunatley, no, it is in the garage for the winter, but I'll be doing so it in the spring.

Tell your dealer (or do it yourself) to put some good synthetic in the trans. I have Redline in mine and it shifts smoother.

I bought enough Royal Purple to put in the trans and also change the rear gear lube. Problem is I was told my warranty would be voided if I used anything BUT the GM fluids!!! This was from the dealer and a guy who has built tons of Tremec transmission out of warranty. I would LOVE to feel the shift after Royal Purple was put in. The consumer seems to lose on a regular basis but it isn't for lack of trying. I am sitting on the Royal Purple if anyone wants to buy it from me.

If he's built tons of transmissions I don't see why he wouldn't recommend a higher quality full synthetic but I would be impressed if a dealer could tell the difference in fluids just by seeing them pour out. Except idk if the trans oil would get dirty enough to change the purple color of RP....Redline trans is red, same color as came in my trans.
