I have had two of my buyers in Mexico quit and move up here to the states in the last week. My main buyer is staying down there but moving his family here this week. I am sure the race people have the security thing worked out but tell him to stay in the group and out of harms way.

You are right about Mexico at the moment. They are close to out of control. I think I am headed there after PRI for business. Mexico needs Pedders too. Then I think about the insanity. Maybe I'll dress in my worn out shop clothes and keep a low profile?

See the third pic he has a bottle of powerade attached to his mouth while he is jumping. I am a little leary of going to Mexico but I guess if there are hundreds of racers from all over the world then maybe it might be safe for us.

Just stick to the big group and you should be OK. I would also be in by dark as many areas have defacto curfews by the cartels. For the most part they are only fighting each other, but plenty of normal people have been caught in the crossfire. So in a sense it is not like you are a target, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am also in the worse area in the country (Juarez and valley) the rest of the country is much better than the border area. What part of Mexico is the race in? The Baja is about the safest area down there.

Just looked at the race site, you should be fine down there, the violence is on the border and much less so on the coast. Have fun, and I hope your son does well in the race. Mexico is actually a pretty cool place to visit, away from the tourist areas it is quite beautiful, and the people are really nice. I have spent quite a bit of time down there over the years, hopefully soon it will settle down again so I can visit my growers again. They also have some of the best bass fishing in the world.....

When you travel to Mexico leave the embroidered logo clothing, jewelry, watches and anything that says I have more than a few Pesos in my pocket at home. As already posted stay with the group. The violence has been well documented in the news, but not the kidnappings. Mexico has been the kidnap for ransom capitol of the world for several years in a row. |
