Yep, let me get my blower on and he and I can have a freindly race. Its all good. Or Tim could run him once his whipple is done, since he is closer in MD. Still I`m not too far away and it would be a blast.

As for which is better, I guess it really depends on what you're after but I gotta say ... after tuning dozens of Maggie cars and then John & Tim's Whipple cars, the Whipple gets my vote hands down if its power and room to grow you're looking for. I think the Maggie has a better "instant snap" feel but the numbers show large gains from the hit and through the top. As someone mentioned earlier, the Whipple keeps going up top while the Maggie (2300) runs out of steam before the end of the pull. |

Where in Virginia are you? Send me a PM, I would be interested in seeing your Camaro. Have you called Mike? |

Well it looks like I don't know when to stop. I am getting rid of the stock exhaust. GMRULZ you were right it is a restriction at these power levels. Tim dynoed his car with the Whipple and he is pretty much at about 30 greater horsepower and torque throughout the band. The only real difference is an aftermarket exhaust. I guess I'm playing catch up.
Now that I think about it, Whipple stated that the 3 inch exhaust would drop about 1-1.5 lbs of boost. I guess that means I need a couple sizes smaller pulley, Hmmm...... Tim, oh by the way I guess we need to order more parts!

That is why I like the big twin screw blowers as it gives the best of both worlds of centri and Roots TVS type. usmcjlp, I was wondering why you were keeping the stock exhaust on at that power level. It really needs some 3" or cutouts. At that power level you for sure have a restriction in the stock exhaust and if it drops boost a little then its a plus.

If it were me I would weld some 3" very high flow resonators in which ever 3" exhaust that I got. I also would have them welded in slightly offset from each other. This really takes car of the drone. I would also do this to my car because I like having a bit of a sleeper and surprising people. For me it has always been entertaining to watch peoples reactions when they find out you have alot more than they thought.

Usmcjlp,
I replied to your pm. I thought the stock axleback would hold you back. After watching my buddy go from 520rwhp to 560rwhp just by opening the cutouts in his 2.5 inch exhaust and knowing I would be in that power level, I knew I needed to drop the deniro for the 3 inch. I kind of wish I had bought the 2 inch primary AR headers but, when I bought my headers and put them on the 2 inch wasn`t even out yet. 1 7/8 w/ 3 inch all the way out the back should be good though. I`m sure Tim can get you a deal, if not I got a great price from a vendor on here JDP Motorsports on the Magnaflow 16483. Now I only used the connection pipes and the axleback muffler portion, I retained my ARH x-pipe w/ the cats and sold the catless magnaflow x-pipe that came w/ the kit. cutouts work great too I just wanted something simple and I figured the 3 inch would be good enough at my power level I`m looking at. Almost forgot you also have the benefit of losing weight over the stock mufflers. sound is much deeper, but amazingly quieter at WOT than the stock mufflers w/ the headers was. Definite sleeper. Haven`t called Mike yet, pm`d the guy I bought from to follow up waiting on a response now. If I don`t get a response in a timely manner I will call Mike again, I did call Mike like 3 weeks ago just to get word from the horses mouth and I had a question on CAI`s and how the kit would respond. Vader SS L99, Great minds think alike!

as for usmcljp, if you don't drag race, and just want a strong street performer, I still say that torque is the way to go. If you never see 6600 rpm, who cares how much hp you're making up there. Instant torque, at any rpm, in any gear, is so much fun on the street. My cam is very mild - that's why I get so much low end power. Ask Tim - he prefers the cam in my car to the one in his for driving on the street. I could change cams tomorrow and make 70 more hp, but I won't be doing it, because it kills low end drivability. Sorry if I insulted anyone, that wasn't my intention. I'm just trying to help people get where they want to go. Even though I've got a maggie, I'm rooting for the whipple too. I'm hoping Tim can find the right combination of pullies, cams, etc. to make the whipple outperform the maggie, I just don't think he's there yet. Ric |
