Speedster's SST Camaro Build Thread [COTW 9/13/10]

Some good news on the SST front today.

Mike Hoy, the owner of CompuShift and Tom (Nelson) took the SST out today for transmission tuning. From the call I received everything went very well and the SST's transmission is now tuned to perfection and the overkill tranny cooling system works like a charm.

They ran around in low boost mode and Mike was excited how quick the shifts are and how smooth and fast the SST accelerates.

I want to shout out a very special Thank You to Mike, Tom and Mark Bowler for setting this up and really taking care of things. It's the ultimate customer service and compliment when people like this are willing to take their personal time to go out and ensure that their product performs flawlessly.

Now they are going to pretty up the SST for a studio photo shoot and some videos. Then time to get out there and finish the high boost maps and get it home.

Hats off to those guys to for stepping up to get this thing finished. And you didn't have to deviate from the plan... The car still works with all the stock components.

That's excellent news! Now, the high boost maps; Is that something you have to do on a dragstrip or is a 0-60 type deal? Dyno?

Oh, and I still have my copy when your engine was featured. Actually I have two of them.

Thanks...

The full throttle maps are already in. Those were done on the engine dyno. These are at differing levels of throttle with the boost controller set at 12 - 28 psi (or whatever the tires can hold at 50 -80 mph). It makes driving the SST seamless regardless of where the boost is set. I will do 0-60's at the drag strip when it is back in Florida.

Yeah, I have a couple of copies of that issue. It's pretty cool to see it in print before it was anodized.

GREAT AMERICAN CAR WAR – 60 minute competition reality show

There is a feud that has gone on in the U.S., which is almost as old as the Hatfield's and McCoy's and that is the feud between Chevy and Ford. Ford is "Ford Tough". Chevy is "Like a Rock". So, we have brought together two teams of car tuners and enthusiasts to face off with their Camaro and Mustang cars in a competition reality show series called the Great American Car War. The show is sure to have strong emotional connection with its audience.

Each team is assigned a performance shop and competes in challenges to get more out of their car. The team is composed of four people, a team leader and an engine expert, body expert and suspension expert. Challenges range from making the car go faster, stop quicker, handle better plus styling improvements. Challenges are settled by actual testing on the track, on the dyno and with unique focus groups. The show is hosted by Jessica Barton, a female sports celebrity associated with motorsports and cars will be tested by a professional race car driver.

Teams have limited time and budgets for each challenge, but by winning challenges teams collect additional funds that may be used on future challenges or may win help from well known car experts. The use of off-the-shelf parts and accessories will give a how-to feel to the show, so audiences will learn about upgrades they can add to their cars.
