Ok guys. Here is an e-mail I got back from the other guy I've been trying to get to dyno my car. Ya'll tell me. Sound like he's right or not?

Quote:
Randy,

Hello sir, and I hope all is well. My apologies for the delay in responding to you. I had surgery a couple of weeks ago, and this has kept me being uncommunicative lately. However, I'm much better now, and I'm playing catchup on all my emails and phone calls.

As for your Camaro, I want to let you know that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with your car. Don't get discouraged by seeing those #s below. After looking at the graphs I can guess a few things: #1: This is 6-speed automatic, right? If you look at the one graph, you can see where he flashed it on the dyno and it caused the Torque Converter to lock then unlock. Also, my guess is that he dynoed it in the wrong gear, which will also show lower #s when not in the proper gear. You should always dyno the GM 6-speed auto in 4th, or possibly even 3rd, as those gears are the closest to the 1:1 ratio. The converter should also be locked up, which will give a 1:1 ratio, instead of a "slipping" gear effect.

As for the AFR (air fuel ratio), the reason it is so rich is because the COT (Cat Over Temp) protection was kicking in, which will cause the AFR to get MUCH richer, so to cool down the cats to keep from damaging them. I can lessen this effect in a custom tune, as it is VERY sensitive from the factory.

Also, if you notice, the power curve of the vehicle is a bit "etchy" on the graphs below. This is due to a non-optimized spark table from the factory. There is 2 spark tables that the vehicle can run off of, a High Octane table and a Low Octane table. If you are using sub-quality fuel, then it'll use either the Low Octane table, or a mix between them, which results in a loss of performance. I would highly suggest you use either Shell or BP fuels in our city of Mobile, as those are the only ones that do NOT have up to 10% ethanol in them (commonly called E10 fuel). While using fuels with up to 10% ethanol is "okay", they require the fueling to be richer at idle, part throttle, and WOT, since the stoich point of E10 fuel is 14.1x A/F versus approx. 14.6x for 100% pure gas.

Also, do you have any mods on the car whatsoever?

Last question, who owns Top Dead Center Performance? I've never heard of it. Is that an import shop?

As for our shop, we are located in west Mobile off of north Schillinger, exactly 1 mile north of the flea market, in a brand-new 10-bay full automotive shop. Here's the address and a map:

Anderson Automotive
7915 Foxfire Drive
Mobile, AL 36608

I look forward to your reply!

Sincerely,

James

I think I'm gonna wait a little longer. I thought I was gonna have it in oct. Now it looks more like Feb. I may have to give my parents my Mazda for a little while so it will be smart to wait till next year... We'll see.

Oh man, Alabama gets better gas than us in FL, Our Shell has that 10% sticker on the pump. I'll have to go look for a BP station.

That's what I thought. I'm gonna have him do me a Dyno. He's mainly a Mustang guy from what I gather but I hear he's pretty damn good at this stuff.

He sounds pretty knowledgeable. Pop by his place and see what kind of cars he's got hanging around or working on. Check out his place it will give you some insight into him and how well he is known. Go to LS1tech.com(or I can for you if you don't want to make an account) and post in the regional sections and see if anyone over there has ever heard of the shop. If not, I am sure they can reccommend a shop that is well versed in the LS engines.

Also on a brighter note at least your not this guy:

Now that hurts the pride.

Randy,

I am not familiar with the Dyno terminology but he had very reasonable explanations for your previous Dyno results, and never once did he try and bad mouth the other shop. He gave you facts according to your results. I would trust him to do my Dyno just by his response alone.

Good Luck,
js

Just got home from having ADM Performance's downpipe's and a MagnaFlow X-Pipe installed. In a word, wow! In another word, incredible. The Dyno chart doesn't do her justice... she's breaking it loose in the first three gears at will now... and the sound (I should say "roar"!), well in another word, perfect.

to ADM Performance.
  • First phase with ADM included a Dyno tune and Axle Back MagnaFlow exhaust - results are the blue line... 333HP and 350TQ. She also started doing 8.5-8.7 second 1/8 miles.
  • Second phase with ADM included Downpipe's and replacing the resonator with the MagnaFlow X-Pipe - results are the red line... 348HP and 366TQ. Boom! Can't wait to get some new time slips!
  • Before ADM? My L99 was doing about 306HP to the rear wheel, with 299TQ. So, perhaps needless to say but I'll say it anyway, I could not be happier with the results. She'll break loose at will - in first, second and third.
