2010 2SS/RS vs GTO

well most of the 2ss camaros i have seen are not selling for msrp ,the dealers are jacking the price up ,optioned up ,market adjustments ,
most of what i have seen are close to 40 k .

it doesnt mean anything , all you will ever see is an ugly inport .
i love my car ,and will keep driving it .
i personaly think it is just chevy jumping on fords retro coat-tails.
"oh look ford has a retro mustang , we should do it too."

i have a simple bolt-on car ,that runs its ass off.
the only people that will even offer to race are in some kind of FI car,or bikes.

the only way ford could make any power was to bolt on a blower.
now they have this new 5.0 block ,that is the size of a 460ci.

my car runs its ass off = 11.60 with 370 hp
no i said the new 5.0 is as big as the old 460.

The Camaro is not a retro design. It has some retro cues in a modern muscle car. The Challenger is a retro, the VW bug is a retro. The Camaro is not retro.

I’ve driven many GTO's and Camaro SS (Yes I Have, Its work). They are pretty close but the GTO is really a faster car in a straight line. That is once the GTO's get some better street rubber they are faster mostly because the camaros weight disadvantage.
The Ls3 motor is FAR better than the LS2 and much more willing to command better times. The Camaro brakes better, has a better(tighter) steering rack ratio so it feels more responsive, has superior differential/ half shaft setup. The camaro also improves on the G8's suspension. This is all expected in a new car! However, it is a Fat pig that’s up there with a four door pontiac G8.

All the automatic Camaros I have driven are dogs however... I left myself cursing as I realized I had traction control off and it really didn’t throw me into the seat. The transmission has just as much fault here as the low compression engine that begs for boost (supercharger etc). Like the Pontiac G8 GT from a 40mph roll its completely lifeless. The LS3 with the Tremec T6060 is the right by for those that want the fastest Camaro out of the boc.

Now being I have the knowledge to build GTO to whatever I need, suspension/powertrain included. i do not see the camaro being a superior chasis and actually inferior do to the weight increase. Around the track and on the drag strip once specked out.
However I surely can Make an Fbody the fastest thing on a drag strip. Weight is such a big factor, and live rear axle helps…Anyways…

This does not mean the GTO is a better performance car to buy. The Camaro is the better car as it can do many more things out of the box. Modified the camaro is Inferior, Stock it is superior, simple truth with so many variables’.

Out of the box for the average consumer the Camaro is a win and the Pontiac GTO was a looser.

I like to think of them as brother and sister. Debating which is better is foolish..

IF you truly wanted the fastest car you would have bought a corvette. Different stroles for different folks.

That's because of the drastic weight disadvantage of the Camaro which is a whopping 100 lbs. and the superior motor, brakes and suspension can not over come that deficit. The Camaro is a real pig at 3800 lbs. but the GTO is manageable at 3700? Also when you compare the 2 mod for mod the GTO clearly comes on top, the Camaro is actually inferior. But then you say the Camaro is a better car "out of the box". I am having a hard time following you or your rational. To compare the Camaro to a G8 in weight (the G8 is just at 4000lbs, about 150 more than an SS) and say it's a pig compared to the GTO is ridiculous.

The curb weight of your car is 3902 unless you have a v6. it’s a fat pig I’m sorry. Ls3 Superior motor in terms of its stock power band range, correct. We are comparing 400hp to a 430hp ls2, however it is a lot easier to get the ls3 within its power band. 30 hp does not make up for the curb weight of the camaro but the engine is very responsive so its easier to get consistent runs.
A stock GTO is slower around a road course than a Camaro but not slower in a straight line. This is very true as I explained the camaro has superior brakes, grippy non all season tires etc.

The Camaro is like having two passengers in your car 3700lbs + 160LB driver vs 3902 + 160lb driver. The camaro is over 4,000 Lbs.

You don’t seem to understand what I’m saying. The camaro is a better stock car on the Track not the strip but it is not a superior car once you modify it. The Curb weight of the Camaro harms the cars trackibility. The car doesn’t even have a spare to remove to lighten it not even digging into the deep things. The GTO also has a tow hitch that can be removed etc. The zeta platform of which the Camaro is based is vastly heavier and has been reinforced more for the camaro.

Of course if I’m talking to people know nothing about cars you may Feel slight sting when GTO’s beat you.

simple facts, right now a GTO is faster than you in a straight line.

hmm harsh words from someone with a slower car than me. I was simply explaining the facts.

I think both GTO's and Camaros are Great. Im waiting to pick up the SS model (if possibly comes out..who knows right ) Or the new track pack in the works. That way I can have two cars in my stable I both love
