It will work fine without the HUD windshield, Vette guys have been adding HUD for a long time without getting the special windshield and have yielded great results.

Also you could just put a little piece of tint film where it will project on the windshield if you want to see it better.

I haven't done this so obviously I have no first hand knowledge of how to install the HUD. From the GM service info site, the step by step on how to replace the HUD requires the removal of the dash. If replacing the HUD requires the removal of the dash, I'd guess installing the HUD requires it as well.

Like I said, I have no first hand knowledge of this so, I'm just going from what I read on the "official" documentation site. If a GM tech were to do a retro-fit, they'd have to remove the dash. There may be a better, less invasive procedure or technique. It might also depend on where/how you're mounting the HUD. The factory location is above the speedometer/tach/info display, on the dash.

Hopefully, you can come up with a much easier solution that will give the people who are wanting to do this more confidence in their ability to pull it off. Good luck with the install.

You know, my 2005 TL manual said you had to remove the bumper cover to replace the HID bulbs but people on the forums I used when I owned that car never did that. I never did that. There were ways around it and may be for this too.

being that my dad was a gm tech for many years, they advise dash removal because it is "simple and easy" for the tech it is a no brainer remove the dash for the easiest access and charge 5 hours. most techs with a brain and they arent really many at least with my experience, they will look at the job and figure out an easy way to do it. with that being said im sure ofer figured out that with the right tools a little patients and a couple of different positions, maybe all we have to do is remove one of the hvac ducts and you have total room, but you might have to bend something out of the way, i dont know i havent done it yet so i cant tell you as soon as i get my parts ill post about it but im sure ofer has a simple and easy soultion that he will share when he gets some time to do a write up

Like I said... just going from the info that I've got. I'm hoping for an easier way to do it. Perhaps the removal of the speedo gauges and the driver side hvac duct gets you enough space to work.

Wow all the speculating, I do not think it that hard to install, i did look at it the first day i got the HUD unit, But like i said for the last week i need to get a stencil for the cut out So that's today's job to find a car to make the stencil. (no its not that easy, I live in a small town and if your dealer dos not have one then the next dealer is only 70 mi away)

So i am going to my service guy to see if they sold a 2011 and if so ask him to call the owner from there it will be some time to make the stencil and start the install, Any way i have to get it done, I have some one bring me there 2010 car for upgrades, (AKA mods)

On Friday i met up with the CA members of C5 on the way to Phoenix for the Super Chevy Show, So you see it has to get done.

Stay tuned....

OK i went to the dealer and he got a car with HUD, He let me sit and make a stencil, frme it, so that is 1/3 the work, The bad news is i had to go to work, (got a call had some water come in to a house under construction) so with that fixed i will be here 1/2 a day and by the end of the day cut the opening in the dash.

Stay tuned....
