The worst part is that there's minimal damage, but because the airbags deployed Im sure it'll be a write off:(

I guess we'll be looking for a good second hand car.... anyone know of any ?

If they write that car off i would buy it back from them and repair it with the money they give you.

Not worth doing that the airbags alone are about 5 or 6 grand and you most buy them new theirs a law against using used airbags that was one of the main reasons they scraped my wife's car but 4 of them went off in hers.

Just did a quick check on Ebay, I can get both airbags, replacement steering cover, and passenger bag cover for around $250.00... Let's see how this plays out.... I know Kelly Blue Book value for the car is between $4200 - $5400 depending on the condition of the car.... If they go with refurbished parts, I don't see more than $1000 damage....Keeping my fingers crossed that this law doesn't apply to older vehicles ( jetta is a 2000 model with no rust and around 70,000 km... worth keeping !!! )

The way insurance company usually work is that they scraps if the repair cost 80% of the value of the car and when replacing air bags apart from the cover you have to replace the bag it self and it's moduale along with the sensors on the bumper. To repair and paint your fender, hood and bumper also maybe a light with used parts about $1900 then add the bags. Maybe talk to Mavis she works for an insurance company for mor informative advise. Good luck

The sensor, and module is in that $250 price.... EBAY has a whole bunch of the OEM parts available, and cheap !!

I did check the SAAQ site, the comunist regime here in Quebec doesn't even allow putting in recycled air bags They ONLY allow new... What a crock of $hite !! If this is the case, I don't think we'll be getting the car back....

Too bad though, I went to see it after work... It really isn't that bad, but your right though, the light needs replacing, the windsheild is cracked, the radio is not working... Who knows what else :( The only thing I can hope for now is a decent settlement...

What there going to do is call around at dealers to see what they would have to pay for one and then they take the lowest offer and try to lowball you so do you home work and get some quotes from car dealers on replacement in writing and fight with them I got lucky I had full replacement value so we got every penny back they even paid for the winter tires
