It's a reference to the unit's height ... single-DIN would only be half as high and if you wanted a DVD screen it would have to slide out the front and then pop-up in front of the unit.

International standard ISO 7736 defines a standard size for car audio head units. The standard was originally established by the German standards body Deutsches Institut für Normung as DIN 75490, and is therefore commonly referred to as the "DIN car radio size". It was adopted as an international standard in 1984.

Head units generally come in either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size. The depth is not standardized. The US standard for a DIN radio is 2" x 7" and the Double DIN sized radio is a 4" x 7". Some radios in Japanese "Kei" vehicles do not conform to the DIN standard however.

It's coming. We swear! But our new LARGER facility has taken longer than expected to complete. We should have an update very soon. The electronics to make this all work have been incredibly difficult. But the hard parts (programming, circuit board design, wiring) are all behind us now. Now it's just the injection mold.......

Anxious to see the DTS kit. I'm not fond of the knobs as I'd prefer electronic climate control over manual.

I like the Alpine kit but it looks a bit big. This DTS kit looks promising.

Patience

I really hope I can get one some day myself. I guess it is easier for me to wait because I can't afford any mods right now LOL

That doesn't shock me at all. The Metra Kit, while filling a gap/doing what it is meant to do, is not anywhere near awesome, fantastic, or much better than average.
